Discoveries and disappointment, the story of a roller skate
So,
Last year I picked up a 92 CX hatch from some dude a city over, about 2,000$, seemed like a steal for the condition.
Ricer *** tail lights
Little did I know it had some severe underlying issues (Besides the D15B7 Mini-me with bad rings and a rough *** idle)
For example.
That's your fuel filler neck!
Yep, the breather is a garden hose!
She came with a swapped interior (rear half) with Integra leathers, an Apexi N1 catback exhaust and some other quirks here and there, besides the shitty GSR snowflakes that are painfully painted.
One of my friends said it looks like a pregnant roller skate, the name stuck...
I started poking around under the hood this spring (she sat in the drive all winter) and discovered the Mini-Me is a pathetic hack job, the harness was in shambles, the intake was pieced together poorly and it was leaking oil everywhere.
A few examples
So I started ripping it all out, in the hopes of saving this roller skate from impending doom of a ricer death (JDMSWAGYOLO stickers)
Oh look! a Z6 head!
Replacing the tail lights with legit Stanley OE lights
The hack job harness being removed
Oh... look... the roller skate has been in a head on collision before... Great...
Yup! that core support has been shittly welded back on and is half coming off...
So, a day or two later and this bastard of an engine was out...
To do:
**** completed so far
Ricer parts removed so far:

Excellent starting point. That body looks like it's in great condition. Any history of rust repair in the rear? I know you mentioned the front was likely in an accident.

I'm sure you've heard of POR 15 but, in case you haven't, http://www.eastwood.com/por-15-semi-...ack-quart.html.
You can save yourself some money if you're spare tire well isn't too bad by laying down a coat of this stuff then painting over it.

Update!
Got a new job, was laid off for a month, this babby will be worked on again shortly, starting with the fuel filler neck and the core support!
Alternately, the gutting of the b18c and inspection to make sure that kitten will purr once it's rebuilt!
Stay tuned after the break!

To adjustment arm is pretty seized, can't get it broken loose, so I soaked it in PB Blaster and the paint started coming off ... some jerk rattle canned half of the bottom frame...
The welded nut has been broken off by the prior owner...
Also, to replace the fuel filler neck, I must first drain the gas tank, correct?
This big *** corroded nut is the drain plug, correct?

That dynomat stuff is supposed to help subs "hit harder"/increase bass. It does work from what I've heard but it weights ALOT. are you gutting the rear ?

Re: Discoveries and disappointment, the story of a roller skate
Yeah
I've removed all the dynamat, carpeting, wheel cover, spare tire, seats, etc.
I'm intending to CLEAN it all, have the rear quarters repaired along with any other rust spots on the back end and repaint it in time.
I'm having a hard time breaking off the toe adjustment bolts though, they're ... pretty seized.

What are your plans for the interior hatch area?
Some rubberized undercoating in there or something?
I'm in to see the progress.

Re: Discoveries and disappointment, the story of a roller skate
Once I get the quarters and rocker plates repaired, I'll see about getting all of the interior re-primered with the rest of the car and rubberize the interior of the spare wheel portion, otherwise I intend to get replacement black carpeting (the original is torn up as hell).
The rear interior paneling isn't in bad shape really, I may put it back in.
not 100% yet.
I'm ... really going for a boosted sleeper build, Yea I realize a BoV is going to ... ruin that once I goose it, but whatever lol

Re: Discoveries and disappointment, the story of a roller skate
Nice sounds good to me. Let me know how it turns out. And pictures if you can. I'm thinking about putting aircraft remover or sanding down my interior hatch space and putting some primer and then 3M professional grade rubberized undercoating.

Re: Discoveries and disappointment, the story of a roller skate
Got the RTA's completely out!
I had to cut the camber arms off at the bolt level
The bolt heads broke off afterall :/
I'm going to get them sand blasted and repainted, new Hard Race bushings and all!
Front suspension came out without issue
Turns out the previous scrub owners put in poly bushings, not sure who made them or how long they've been there, but they're in good shape, I'm not ... sure if I'll keep them or not.
Old shocks, good god are they in BAD shape.
I set one down on the concrete and just about all of the paint fell off of them at once
I'm going to get this all sand blasted soon and cleaned up.
On my 99 Si I used eastwood chassis black, I'm going to look at something else for this.
the eastwood paint looked good, but some of it's not held up entirely well.
The replacement rear LCA's I got from somebody locally are treated with rustolium, they look really good and are very well done, I think I'm going to pursue that route once it's all blasted clean.
This car was repainted awhile back, it's not ... bad, but there is a lot of overspray on the under body, especially on the old RTA's.
I need to re-rust proof and rubberize a lot of the bottom frame, any recommendations??

Re: Discoveries and disappointment, the story of a roller skate
I have a feeling the quarters have been reskinned before... Just ... Not well.
The interior fender has rolled metal that wasn't treated properly and is what's beginning to rust now, those marks appear to be tack weld points and the subsequent scorching that comes with it.
I can and will post better pics of them, maybe somebody will know what's up.
Thanks for the tip on truck bed liner!!
