Hey guys,
I'm trying to remove my AC compressor because I have a lot of work to do on my car and i need the compressor out of the way. Anyway, my car is not driveable due to a collision with a deer, therefor, I cannot get the car to the dealer in order to have the freon discharged. What do I do? Is there a way that I can discharge the freon myself? Any help would be great.

if you dont care about the ozone layer just let it out slowly by loosening a line or whatever, just dont let anybody see you cuz its like a $10k fine. other than that the only way is by using an evacuation tank that only a shop that does A/C work will have.

Yeah, with that known to you, let it run free into the atmosphere.

Easier than doing anything else...and I'm not too worried about global warming yet.

It's not the same kind of damage, but it's still a bad thing to throw into the air when a simple trip to a nearby garage can eliminate it - probably for free.

i love the enviorment but if you cant drive it, you gotta do what you gotta do. i dont expect anybody to tow there car just to get freon discharged unless your super ritch!

my post was kind of generic, like "any" vehicle that needs a freon dump kind of thing. not just his cuz its r134a.

what do you mean, r134a is FREON, its the new stuff, the old stuff is r12. both are freon.

Eh, in mine (and many other peoples') experience R12 is usually referred to as freon and r134a is just referred to as r134a, not freon.

You're the first person I've ever heard call r134a freon .

R134a is TECHNICALLY not freon, but alot of people still call it that.

and contrary to popular belief R12 does not damage the ozone nearly as bad as the hippies make it sound. Dupont was losing the patent on R12 production and magically studies appeared saying it was bad and the new R134a appeared to replace it.

im not telling you to discharge the AC system, because its illegal and bad. but make your own decision. just keep the garage closed for any wandering EPA inspectors haha

Yeah, that's what I was getting at, schardbody. Freon = R12.

I've never heard anybody except you call r134a Freon, though I do understand and agree with what you're saying from a simplistic stand point. Though it's not freon.

Yes. 93 hondas weere r-12. 94 was switched over to r-134a
