Dirt in gas tank? Fuel pump?
94 civic ex. D16Z6(less than 100,000 miles) For a couple months now iv had a problem where my car would just randomly loose power. i could floor the gas pedal and the RPM's would rise a little then go back down. When this first started happening id pull off to the side of the rode, Turn the car off then back on and it would take off drive just fine for another 3-5 min or so. All the times this happens i am low of gas. I took it to a mechanic he looked at everything. filled it up with gas, replaced the fuel filter. and told me it must have been the fuel filter or i'm just running out of gas. After getting it back i didn't have a problem for awhile. Untill one day going to work. i just loose power again. this time i just press the pedal over and over and it took off. Got to the gas station filled it and didn't have a problem after. That time. the gas needle wasn't ever sitting on E there was a space between the needle and red mark...Then again last night i let my father borrow it to go somewhere he told me the car was loosing power for a good 10-15 miles all he would do is push in the pedal untill it took off. I just looked at my gas gauge and the needle is sitting where it did this last time. I find this odd. I used to be able to run that thing for awhile after it was on E i get about 200miles a tank. and usually 25$ will put the needle at the top. I don't know if it will take more gas than that or not. but i think i filled it all the way up at 30$ once and the gas just shut off as if the tank was full. Could i just really be running out of gas? is there dirt or something in the gas tank? if so how could i remove it? Maybe the fuel pump is going to ****? If so does anyone know how much that would cost to let a mechanic fix it? Thanks.

Re: Dirt in gas tank? Fuel pump?
The fuel pump (located in the gas tank) is covered by a sock filter that prevents debris in the gas tank from getting sucked up and sent to the filter on firewall.
Remove the fuel pump and inspect this sock filter. It may be clogged or has come loose. In either case, replace it.

Re: Dirt in gas tank? Fuel pump?
Thanks. I will do that soon. I drove it today for the first time in awhile. It drove fine for maybe 2 minutes. then it started to die as if it was running out of gas. blump blump blump. was about to pull into the gas station and some ******* cut me off so i was sitting behind him waiting and i turned off my car. in feel i would have run out of gas. Didn't think it would turn back on. But oddly it turned back on without a problem. Put about 2 gallons of gas in it. turned it on reved it up a little everything seemed fine(was in park at the time) then put it in drive. drove maybe 5 feet untill the blump blump blump came up again. I pushed the pedal down harder and i heard a pop sound and then my car took off like normal. thought it was ok. but i can still feel somethings not right when driving it. i feel like theres a little blump every now and then. And when i slow down to make a turn or stop. as soon as i speed up. the blump blump blump happens a little then it drives good for the most part. Ill have the car in park and the car idels/sounds just fine. but then i put it in drive and it does that blump blump blump sound again. kinda sounds like an old big truck when its started if that makes any sense.
