Did my fuel pump take a ****?
Alright.. After I installed my Walbro and FPR my fuel system has been acting up. When I first installed it, I noticed it takes a second for the car to fire, it sputters somewhat, only after sitting for more than several hours. So I'm thinking maybe the fuel sensor relay is going bad, but today driving home from school my car starts sputtering for no reason. I'll give it gas and it feels like my stock SOHC did then it sputters/kicks and takes off. Did this 6 times, so I get out like WTF thinking maybe my nut on my FPR came loose and my fuel pressure is low, nope it's steady @ 52 PSI. The final thing that leads me to think something is wrong, when I pull the vaccum hose off my FPR the fuel pressure stays constant. I bought this pump from Lightning very recently, could it be defective? I also checked for leaks in my fuel line, but found nothing.

Yah I know, that's why I'm confused. Also, after I installed these things, my fuel pressure reads 0 with the ignition turned to 'on'. Doesn't go up until the car is actually started, but when I turn the key on I can hear it whining so there's another twist. It's almost like there's a problem between the pump and FP gauge.

Haven't checked the fuel filter cause it just seems a bit much, but I probably should. I ran some injector cleaner a few times. Hell I even switched back to NGK's cause it ran like *** after the install with my Denso Iridiums, they were too hot and a lil white. I'll look into the filter I guess, I dunno what else to do.

do u have a b&m fpr?? i could never get mine to work correctly for some reason. i couldnt adjust it so the press gauge would read within spec. so now i have a 255lph pump, stock regulator, and my pressure is still within stock specs: 39psi at idle, 42 with the hose off and pinched. 52 psi sounds pretty high. you could be flooding your injectors. injectors are calibrated to pulse a certain amount of fuel at a set pressure.

That's another odd thing. When I had it @ 42 PSI, it bogged out hard about 50% throttle. I turned it accomdate spray and to stop the bog. It is a B&M FPR, I had to **** with the thing over and over to get the pressure right. Drilled a hole in the metal line and everything.

Check the relay and try and clean it up a bit. Mine has been doing the same thing ever since I got it. If that dosn't work gover the bang test to find out if it's the pump.

i used my stock FPR to make the B&M one. man. i couldnt adjust the pressure correctly for the life of me. try getting a stock FPR and see if it solves ur problem...

A) Fuel filter won't make a dramatic difference.
B)I've heard of several people getting bad walbros from the git-go. I'm not saying that's it, but it's definitely a possibilty. I had a Turbo DSM(eclipse) fuel pump in my car that took a ****. When I took it out and tested it, it still spun and made a whine as if it were pumping. However, it wouldn't actually pump fuel. This could be a problem for you, but I doubt it since you said you are getting a fuel pressure reading.
C) Are you sure you need that much fuel? I mean, thats a big pump, backed up with 52psi. Thats a lot of fuel. Whats the setup that constitutes using such a large amount of fuel? Have you tried leaning it out any?

I leaned it out to 38-42 but it was bogging, then I had it at 48 for majority of the time. I just don't get why the pressure stays constant with the hose off and why it takes so much time to get the bastard started.

Re: (IDriveAHonda)
When Ohio stops being gay and warms up tomorrow I'll change the fuel filter and lower the fuel pressure a bit and see what happens. I had it at 44 prior to this, so maybe I'll lower it.

same prob with my b&m. but i did lean it out to 35psi before, and damn i got some good MPG
