Default Diagnostics! Honda people please help!

Hey my '94 del Sol VTEC (b16a3) has a slighty rough idle and gets really rough when you give it gas. Seems to be misfiring. It has new Bosch platinum plugs and the stock wires are okay but don't know what to try next. I don't have a factory manual and it's Christmas so I can't get one i need to know some things.

Where is the plug you jump in order to make your check engine light give you diagnostic codes?? Also since I don't have a book I will need to find the codes also, if this info is conveniently places on the web somewhere.

the wire you jump is a harness located under your pass kick panel. it's green and located right above your ecu, just take a paper clip or wire to jump it. then turn the key to exess. as far as the codes i have no idea where to find them online, i know the a few months back sport compact car had an article abotu this topic. hope this helped you out, peace and merry christmass

Thanks! I saw a green plug hanging under the pass. panel. But it had things plugged into it already. I thought it was just a plug hanging freely with nothing else into it? I just glanzed though, maybe I should look again.

First try to reuse yoru stock plugs and wires, reset the ecu (pull the backup fuse under the hood and wait 15 sec then plug it back in), and see if it runs right. Personally, IMO NGK plugs and wires work the best in a Honda.

In order to check the codes, your check engine light should be on. If so then short the two pin plug above the ecu and turn the key to the accessory position. Count the flashes. For example: 1 long flash and two short flashes = a code 12.

Good luck,

yea.....tell us what code(s) it is throwing and then we can help you!! the list above is helpful.....but in my haynes manual it has about 30+ codes for more specific areas. the first number will flash slow and then the second number will flash very quickly....then it will repeat. it might give you more than one code so keep watching it(I can't remember how many times it flashes each one??)

hope this helps!

Sounds like it might also be the O2 sensor.

Is the check-engine light even on? Did the change in behavior come with the change in plugs? Did you put the wires on in the correct order? Is it just like a little bit of a rough idle, or is it just running horribly?

Thanks for your reply everyone! Sorry I hadn't answered I had to quit(unfortunately and go to work yesterday)! But I'm getting back into to it today, hopefully I can get it fixed. I went to Honda to ask the guy the codes and he said that there was no way for me to check codes and that I have to bring it to them for their $10,000 machine to check. They wouldn't tell me anything. So maybe with all of your help I can fix it without them. okay heres what happened:

Car just started misfiring real bad. So I got some new (I know this might be bad) Bosch Platinum Plugs for it gapped .050, and checked stock plug wires they seem to be okay. I also checked the distributor cap and it is fine. I thought it might be the plugs but the car was doing it with the stock plugs also, which now that I look are not bad like I though initially.

Check Engine light is not on, change in behavior came before I changed to plugs, I changed the plugs as a solution to the problem (or so I thought). Wires are stock and are in the correct order. Car just started running horribly.

I want to give you all codes but I don't know what to jump to make it give me a code. Anyone have a pic?

But the Check Engine light is not/did not come on, so It won't give me a code will it? The car just started running horribly.

A few people have suggested bad gas? Possibly? I thought nobody got bad gas anymore.
