hey.. just wondering what the top speed on my sol is... is it goverened?

I have a 94 with headers intake and exhaust and I got my car up to 138ish.....speedo was pegged way over the stock settings =] sooooooo much fun

cool.. mines still stock and i had it at 130 the other day.. and i wasn't even redlined.. but i had to slow down for other cars..

only 138? I got my Si sol up to 127 I thought it would be alot higher, but i guess at those high speeds that is alot higher.

i got my 95 Si hatch with a GSR cluster to 132 mph. not sure how acurate the GSR cluster is, but there you go

149 mph, been there, done that. stock 5th gear ratio wont allow it to go any faster. I was already at redline in 5th. If you take a 5th gear from a gsr tranny, you'll gain roughly another 10mph top end speed.

Hi Guys,
I've got a 93 Delsol Si and i took it all the way to redline in fifth gear. if i had to guess the speed, i'd have to say in the 140's because it was pegged way past the highest marking on the speedo... I've got I/H/E and underdrive pulleys... The coolest thing about that night was that i was racing a z28 all the way up to that speed. He didn't pull on me as we raced all the way from about 90-up. It was a mid-90's model, so do you guys think he was just messing with me? eh, i dunno...

i dont see a sohc vtec d16 in the 140s. my brother's old civic coupe had one, he topped out about 132-138 mph. same setup as you.

yeah, he was just messing with you . Although not the most powerful pony car, it could still easily pull away from a del sol si with I/H/E and pulleys.



P.S. You really wanna see some power? Go find the owner of a '96 Pontiac Trans Am 6-speed and ask them for an "acceleration demonstration" .

There's no reason for me to lie; but anyhow, yeah, it surprised the hell out of me too. It was the first time i was ever able to totally go all out. I'm really not sure of the exact speed, but like i said, the speedometer goes to 130 and the needle was a good distance past the mark. I'd love to run sometime if you're from TX...

Real quick:

My old SOHC VTEC motor in my hatch would do about 130mph revved out in 4th gear. After shifting to 5th it hit a dead "wall" because it didn't have enough power to overcome the drag and low gear.

Top speed in a SOHC is usually achieved in 4th gear, not 5th, unless you pushing a lot over stock whp.

Del sols have different aer characteristics I'm sure - better or worse? Don't know.

DOHC? I'll post a link to a gearchart that shows the theoretical top speeds on various tranny gears - this is w/o wind resistance too.

Don't forget that tire size helps too. Got the SOHC tranny specs? Plug them in and find out what the topspeed COULD be if there was no drag.

i was running a golf gti in my del sol si 96(d16y8) on a clsoed track we do up here north of toronto, and basically i hit that wall in 5th gear, so i slowed a bit, let the gti in front( we were side by side) and drafted him till I could crossover ionto vtec in 5th gear, then i proceeded to pull all the way to redline in 5th, this was done completely stock save a ghetto cold air intake!

there was definately a wall there, but once i drafted him it went away!

127-130 is the normal. Redlining in 5th would be 152 mph.

MAYBE redline 4th gear, but never 5th gear.

93 DX HB with Z6 motor clocked at 132 mph, speedo read 136 mph.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who knows that 5th gear is useless in a SOHC motor when all you've got is bolt-ons.

Why do people make **** up? That's not directed at any particular person on this thread, but if you're lying, then shut up please.

There will be people who don't know any better that read someone's lies and take them as fact. Then that person spreads the wealth of misinformation and says:

"Yeah the stock Civic EX with bolt-ons can do 140+mph!"

I have had a stock 1992 Civic Si and I assure you 4th gear topping out was around 125-130mph, and 5th gear went nowhere.

I guess some others are in some nice state of perfect vacuum where's there's no drag and only a 60mph tailwind to push them

I do believe i said that I could NOT engage vtec until i drafted the car in front of me
and right before that my speedo was sitting at about what, 205 km/k in the beginning of 5th

i was able to go to redline in 4th, and then once in 5th i accellerated to a point, but then i could not accellerate any further without draftiong

lowerd del sol behind a non lowered gti afforded me more than enuf slip to make up the 3 or 4 hundred needed rpms for the crossover

if you dont believe me, oh well, i have witnesses
BOOSTED was right behind me during this entire persuit!
why on earth i would make up a story about the POS motor that came with my car I dont know
all i can tell you is that I was impressed by it, as was the gti, and as was BOOSTED in his talon swapped Hyundai Sonata!

You said you drafted and **** - it's possible, so don't worry man.

I'm talking about stuff I've seen not just on this thread, this site, or even on the whole net. I'm going to post a link to a neat gear chart that calculates speeds in every gear - punch in the ratios, get the theoretical topspeed if there was no drag.

For the record, I didnt redline in 5th, that would be silly and impossible, i was just trying to say that i got it to crossover into vtec, and basically as soon as this happened I started pulling away from the gti, not super quick, but by at least 5-10km/h more than him, which is pretty good at speeds over 200 km/h!

Yes guys he isnt shitting you guys. I was there limping behind them with my sliping clutch but i saw this. Let me tell you i couldnt belive it. I was like what the hell is going on here?? I was very impressed. But if i had a good clutch i would have smoked them both

I can say I have squeezed (NOSed) 5th to 140+ mph on my SOHC. But juice at speed for long periods = KABOOM!

I still have my SOHC.

I guess at 140-142 mph, speedo needle was at dead south or 6 o clock.

BTW KNOW what happens at those speeds. A small bump at 60 mph will upset car enoughtv at 120+ to KILL YOU along with passengers and other innocents.

With 5th gear changes I should be able to hit 148-150 mph, but my ***** say I can't do it safely.

I got a lil POS 93 civic coupe, not vtec and no mods and i took it to 125mph on the highway...so im sure you could go much faster......
