Default Del Sol 1.6 radiator on Civic SOHC ??

Hello, well my car has been overheating severely for the past couple days. I switched rad cap and put in new thermostate and still overheating. Also found that the thermo switch is broke but shouldnt be enuff to cause the car to over heat the way it does. Yesterday I flushed out all the old coolant to look for leaks. And when i was letting the car just sit and idle. I few mins later it was getting really hot. And i noticed that coolant was shooting outta the radiator just below where the radiator cap goes into. Like where the top part of the radiator connects to the fins. So i assume this is my problem. So since I need a new one. And i plan on getting a swap fairly soon. I was wondering if i could go ahead and buy the Del Sol Radiator and install it on the SOHC vtec engine. And get the benefit of a better radiator and save money when it comes time for the engine swap.

Will it fit fine ?
Thanks

yes it will fit directly- it will cool better once you get the swap... for the SOHC it is kinda overkill.

You say it will cool better once i get the swap ? and that its overkill. I understand how it could be overkill. But what do you mean it will cool better when i get the swap ? Are you saying that the radiator wont cool the sohc properly ? Like its to big of a radiator to cool it ? Is that possible ?

Thanks for the help,
R

Make sure you get the Del Sol VTEC, its the dual core, the other del sol models arent any bigger.

fix your thermoswitch
that is why it is overheating, how could you think a broken thermoswitch is not part of your problem?

not to be an ***, but you do know the thermoswitch turns your fan on right?

no fan= no cool, they are only around 20 dollars and take ten minutes to replace, and your problem will be solved, at least once you fix your radiator, but don't buy a new radiator without fixing the thermoswitch

I do know my thermoswitch turns on my fan. how do you think i realized that it isnt functioning properly ? Anyways. My car wasnt over heating at an idle or stop only after driving for a while. And im sorry but jus having a broken thermoswitch wouldnt make my car over heat the way it was. You honestly think a fan is gonna cool down an engine when ur goin about 30+ mph ? Im sorry but the fact that you are moving will bring in more air then the fan would. I replaced my radiator. That was the problem. It had a severe leak, and when i would give it gas it would cause the coolant to shoot out of the radiator which made it low/almost no coolant and also was causing the whole assembly not to be pressurized the way it should have been. which didnt allow my thermostat to work correctly. I got a new radiator. And now its working fine.. Thanks for all the help, i went with the del sol dual core.

Peace,
Robert

I was in the same situation a while back.

The dual row DelSol Vtec rad will work fine. It fits directly into the oem location and uses the SOHC fan as easily. You will have to streach the D series rad hoses over the larger B series rad inlet/outlet pipes. It takes alittle elbow grease and WD-40 that is all. I also switched out the rad hose clamps for the larger B series ones for better hose seal.
