*Urgent* 99 civic sputtering, check engine light flashing!
I neep help with my 99 civic 4dr sedan. It has a SOHC D16 motor in it. Today it started sputtering upon acceleration. It will run at idle and not cut off, but it even sputters then. The check engine light flashes, then goes back and stays on, then back to flashing. Sputtering is pretty constant. Almost sounds like its running on 3 cylinders. Sputtering dont do it as bad at higher RPM's, but you can tell its still there.
Here is what I have tried so far, didn't help at all:
Each plug wire is getting fire and connect good
Dist. cap inside is dry and free of dirt/rust/debris, even scraped metal 'pins' on cap
Installed brand new spark plugs
does have gas, lol
Any ideas??? Thanks in advance!!!

i had the exact same problem with my 2000 civic coupe. it started when i ran out of gas. i replaced the plugwires and it ran smooth after that.

GET YOUR LIGHT CHECKED!!! that should be the #1 thing to do and it will tell you what is ****ed up. it seems like a miss though. check the light then come back if you need to

I would check wires like frog said. Also, check your fuel pressure, possibly swap the regulator with another one. I'd check timing too, just to be safe.

i'm fixing to go buy new plug wires and see if that fixes it. I'll post back later with results. The car does run, and will drive, so I can't see where it would be loosing compression, looks like it wouldnt even run at all.
Could it be the Oxygen sensor?? think that would cause a mis-fire maybe messing up the fuel ratio or something?? ........just a thought

*Problem Fixed!!*
It was the plug wires. Luckily it was a free fix for me b/c I had bought the wires at Auto Zone and they had a lifetime replacement warranty, so I got them free of charge!!

I had the #3 wire pull out of the Distributor cap enough to cause the same problem, When I pulled over it was hanging 3 inches away and the spark was still jumping the gap.
Also I damaged the coil spring when I rebuilt the car last month, ran it without for a week, couldn't really tell, but when I bought a new coil and cap, you could really tell, the arching of the spark across the gap was corroding the thing's fast.
If you guys are having wire problems, I believe those wires really gotta be toasted lol.
