d16y7 swap to d16z6 vtec
wats up guys im having a huge problem with my car . first off i have a 1997 honda civic dx with the d16y7 and currently just swaped it out with a 95 honda civic ex (d16z6 vtec) i am using the original y7 ecu and the original engine harness preety much everything is original from the y7. the problem started with the car not wanting to turn on so i took of the timing belt realising that the crank sprocket was off timing at about 180 degress , i then aligned the sprocket to its arrow and i had the cam sprocket at top dead center. tried to turn the car again and it would not start and i started switching around the spark plug wires until it finally started! the engine was at a high idle and it kept jumping from 2500rpm to about 3200rpm and it smelt and you can hear that it was misfiring im sitting here wondering what the hell is going on ??

get a helms manual first off! secondly your y7 ecu isn't made to run a z6, its gonna run like **** till you get the correct ecu for it.

Re: d16y7 swap to d16z6 vtec
are you saying you heard vtec engage? if you are, you were mistaken my friend. can't have vtec engage if the ecu doesn't have vtec components in it. besides wtf are you doing taching your motor out when you know it's running like **** and have the wrong ecu!?

Lol! Alright bro, first of all you need a y8 manifold and wiring harness and a p2p 5 speed ecu and you should be set, some of the plugs may not fit due to the z6 being obd1, so whatever plugs dont fit try using the sensor off of your y7 instead, should have bought a y8 instead, less electrical hassle and slightly better top end power... its honda tech, always prepare to get flamed, its part of learning if you said something that is totally incorrect or on the edge of moronic...

Re: d16y7 swap to d16z6 vtec
Oh and furthermore run the correct ecu, I blew one of my y8s up using a p72 (gsr) computer, unless your motor is built, just use the correct ecu... honestly I'd use the obd2a to obd1 jumper harness and run a p28 just to be safe.....

Re: d16y7 swap to d16z6 vtec
Yo I know this thread is a post all on its on but anyone want to help me out? I'm fairly new to tuning. I am buying my first honda in a couple of weeks. All I know about it is that it's a 98 civic 4Dr i don't even know if it's ex lx or dx. I do know I would like to swap the engine later down the road. I was just looking for more info on basics that I should start doing to it immediately once I get it. Eventually I would like to put it in shows. Thanks a lot.
