d16y7 noise under load
Hi Everyone- I have a 2000 Civic LX auto. The car currently has 274,000 miles on it. The car has been well cared for and generally runs very good. The engine uses a bit of oil, but I keep an eye on things. There is a engine noise that I have not been able able to diagnose.
The engine will make a slight clicking noise around 2,700-3,000 rpms under load. This happens to be a common cruising rpm so I hear it most on the highway. The noise will not occur at full throttle. The noise does not happen around any other rpm range. The engine has been recently tuned up, has plenty of power, and idles nicely. The noise doesn't sound like a knock to me.
I am wondering if the valves need to be adjusted? Is it possible rod knock? I have searched around and haven't come up with anything that really describes the condition I am experiencing.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions- Cory

Re: d16y7 noise under load
Using low grade 87. I ran a can of sea foam back a couple months ago. Nothing seems to solve the issue for very long.
The best way to describe the noise is this- it is like the sound that you would get if you rubbed a couple of large washers together repeatedly.

it only happens between 2700-3000? so nothing at idle or above 3k?
post a video or sound clip. what you may hear as one thing maybe totally different for us.

Re: d16y7 noise under load
It is definitely an engine noise. I will try to upload a video soon. I am not positive that the sound is going to show up on the clip though. The wind noise and general background noise may make it hard to pick up.
It doesn't happen at all at idle and only happens under part throttle. I do a lot of highway driving at around 3,000 rpm and notice it then.
