tach jump/sputter eg mini me swap
just got the mini me swap done ran the vtec wires to the ecu no CEL with the p28 ecu
the tachometer jumps and the car sputters around 3000rpms
the timing light lines up with the tdc mark when placed on the #1 cylinder is the timing belt off?
i thought everything was lined up but the timing marks were not even close so i moved it over a tooth and now its lined up with white tdc mark

you don't line the tdc mark up when doing ignition timing... theres 3 ignition marks. line it up with the middle ignition mark for stock timing. 2 degrees neg or pos are the other 2..

so you think my belt is a tooth off? i knew it was supposed to be on the red line, and the two lines next to that are 15 degree's i believe.
the sputtering is gone now same for the tach jump. it was loose igniter bolts

no. i think ur ignition timing is wrong. when you set timing with a timing light you set it to the middle of the 3 marks. not the tdc mark

Make sure to jump the service connector and that the engine is idling to spec when checking/adjusting the ignition timing. If you can't align the pointer with the red mark, then the mechanical timing is still off by a tooth.

but i moved the belt over a tooth when it had the idle problem so now i just have to move it back thanks.

it was the belt i put it back to where it was and let the engine warm up with the service connector jumped.
its timed to the red mark is there any advantage to slight advancement in the timing?
*felt the first vtec kick*

Re: tach jump/sputter eg mini me swap
thats what most people were saying in threads when i searched no benefit. and possible detination
so vtec kicks in just before redline whats up with that? right about 6500-6800 rpm
i don't notice a huge difference overall sounds louder when vtec kicks in.
