D16Y7 Hard to start, and dies when given gas hard
Hey guys! I need help with my civic!
Specs: 1997 EJ6 D16Y7 automatic
NO CELs
It take a while to start, you will hear it try and start intermittently until it does start running. Once it's running if you hit the gas too fast it will die.
I have an aftermarket fuel pump in it also and the distributor was taken off and back on so I'm sure it's out of time. Mechanical timing is good though.
Could too much fuel or bad ignition timing cause this issue? You can smell the fuel and how rich it's running when you're trying to start it, should I just put the stock fuel pump back in? 😬
I have already tried throttle position sensor, MAP sensor, and IACV and replaced the whole intake except for the fuel rail. Didn't make a difference.

How about you stop throwing random parts at it, and actually do some diagnostics? Why did you put a bigger fuel pump on, if the OEM one still works? Test fuel pressure.

Then tell us what color your spark is. Once you've tested those two things, we'll work from there - quit buying random ****.

[QUOTE=eghatch9295;50565982]the distributor would have to be almost 180 off to cause those symptoms. either its bad, or your mechanical timing is off. how are you sure either is good?[/
Haha, no way it's even 30 degrees off. I'm sure ignition timing is off and I know mechanical timing is good because the timing marks are aligned and the belt is new, it's not a tooth off or anything, I checked it several times hoping it was just that haha.
