D15B7 Overheats and Eats Coolant after thermostat change
My old thermostat was stuck open on my d15b7 so I bought a new SuperStant T-Stat and some coolant. I did the whole thermostat procedure change and I noticed this ;
Previous owner removed the plug from harness to thermostat fan solenoid.Any one know where those wires for the plug are so I can redo it?
(Yes the fan is on continuously)
So I finished up the thermostat change , reassembled it with a new gasket and gasket maker around the housing's frame , bolted it back up , refilled coolant , checked hoses and started the car.
It runs fine after heating up but after 3-6 minutes of driving (depending how hard) the temp gauge goes to the halfway mark , then slowly goes all the way up while driving back home. I stopped the car and popped the hood and saw that the coolant is all gone and noticed the bottom rad. hose is cold as a ************ while the top radiator hose is hotter than a mf, but all my coolant is gone...
This is really aggrevating , first the thermostat was stuck open making my car run cold and now the thermostat is making my car run hot?
Help please!

Didnt see you mention that you bled the system of air afterwards which is why you are overheating. With your car cold take off your rad cap and let the car start up and idle, let it warm up until the fans kick on and you will notice the radiator fluid bubbling and the level going down, fill as needed.

If you haven't had the car long sounds like the previous owner wired the fan to stay on to counteract a bad head gasket.

Didnt see you mention that you bled the system of air afterwards which is why you are overheating. With your car cold take off your rad cap and let the car start up and idle, let it warm up until the fans kick on and you will notice the radiator fluid bubbling and the level going down, fill as needed.
Then I thought this. Try to bleed it first but I'd be willing to bet you have more issues including up to a bad HG. As for the plug just get one from a junkyard and connect the green and black wires to it.

I bled it a second time and it worked!
Car runs fine, fan still stays on , I bought the plug and spliced the wires like you said and the car wouldn't start.... I put it back and it does, wtf?
Just wondering; how might a continously spinning fan counteract a bad head gasket?

Do you have another set of green and black wires coming out of that harness? Those black and green might be part if the thermostat grounding location. You should have a total of 4 ground wires there which means you should have another set of green and black wires for the switch I'm assuming.

You're right but my thought is that a person has an over heat condition. Lets say their fan isn't working causing the overheat. They can't get it to run so they either take out the thermostat to keep it cooler or jump the fan to work all the time. In that time they've overheated the car so many times it causes the head gasket to go.
