Re: tapping out at 5500rpm at WOT
That doesn't ring true with what I've experienced on my P06 D15B7. Just today, 4th gear, 6300 RPM and climbing just before shifting to 5th, multiple times. If it was cutting the fuel off, I don't see how the RPM would continually climb. I know the dash tach isn't 100% accurate but 6500 RPM isn't that high either to believe the tach is off that large of an amount.
Also why would the fuel cutoff be set 700 RPM lower than the rev limit of 6500 RPM (which I have hit on flat lands)? 2nd gear rev limiter on occasion, doesn't seem to stop pumping fuel prematurely.
Maybe I'm not understanding how fuel cutoff works for the high rpm.

They may have. I owned a bunch of those engines. Redline on the factory tach is 6400rpm and it's always lower than the fuel cut. I know the factory tach isn't very accurate but they'll usually go close to 7000rpm before they hit the rev limiter.
Actually, I think the fuel cut for D15B7 and D15B8 are reversed in the service manual.

Not looking to debate, looking for some understanding on how the fuel cut works as it must not be plainly obvious if it's at 5800 rpm and yet the car continues to accelerate steadily with no loss in torque beyond that to 6500 range.
That's not the only error in the manual for the D15B7. There is gross errors on the main journal sizes not even printed as well as a misprint for rod big end size etc.
Thank you for confirming my suspicions. The other option was simply I didn't understand how the fuel cut operates as the assumed operation that comes to mind would prevent any further RPM climb without a noticeable change in torque.

Does it (the motor) sound the same just before you cut it off at 6500 partial throttle as it does when you get the automatic cut at 5500 rpm wide open throttle?

My d16z6 would read 8000rpm and the fuel cut wouldn't happen.
Put in an Omni Power OEM replacement tach, tried again, rev limiter at 7400 rpm.
