Default cv axle issue, did i damage more than i think?

ok so i have a 92 honda civic dx with a zc motor swap. i bought the car with the swap in place. a few weeks after having the car i got stuck in a dead end and tried to reverse right, when i heard 2 loud pops under the front of the car. after trying to roll back a tiny bit more i heard 3 more loud pops and next thing ya know my front end is on the ground. i hopped out and looked under the car and my driver side axle was on the ground as well as the castle nut on my ball joint was laying on the pavement along with the rest of my control arm. i got towed back to my place and jacked the car up and was able to put the cv axle back in. (btw the cv was seperated from the cv casing [i think... thats what its called..] i had to squeeze the cv joint passed the exhaust to get it back to its other half that was still connected in the tranny. the boot was destroyed. i used a nut that fit on the ball joint to keep my arms in places temporarily. after i put it back together i dropped it back on the ground and (unfortunately i was broke at the time) had to drive it around like that for a bit. (the axle popped out on me 2 more times after the first incident the very last time snapping my ball joint stem completely off) when i was driving with the cv like this everytime i would slowdown or shift it would clunk a few times and the car would jump like the two halfs of the joint were filling in lost space and hitting back together. i have since replaced the axle with a brand new one (not a reman) and it drives smoothly and wonderfully since. (as well as a brand new ball joint..duh.. i actually destroyed 2 ball joints in the process of learning how to remove and install the damn things) now my major question is this: could i have possibly done more damage to my car than i think by driving this thing around with a seriously mucked up cv axle? also i am thinking that the original owner didnt use the proper cv axle during the swap which caused the cv to seperate. but i am not 100% on that.

oh and btw i did do a quick search and i didnt find anything on this.
