cracked windshield
while driving on the highway this weekend, i had a small rock shoot up at my windshield. when i noticed that it had actually cracked my windshield, it was about four inches from the a pillar. this happened on friday. today it has spread to almost half way across the windshield. can anybody offer me any advice as to how i can temporarily stop it from getting worse, as well as any suggestions for getting it fixed. am i gonna have to get it repaired though my insurance or are there other alternatives to fixing it? sorry about the long winded post

Re: cracked windshield (nahledge 7)
there is no way to temporarily solve your problem. the windshield will continue to crack as much as it wants to. remember that driving your car creates vibration, which will further the crack in your window. the only way you could have saved it from cracking would have been the first day before the crack spread. there is some kind of glue that stops cracks from getting bigger, but it's not permanent. solution... just go and replace it

Re: cracked windshield (cre18)
Theres some construction going on here on Rt30, and after they tore the top layer of the road off, they didn't bother to sweep it....so I got 2 cracked windshields 2 days in a row (2 diff cars of course). So I called the state road crew and am having them take care of it. 2 windshields in 2 days, I couldn't justify giving that to my insurance company.

If you live in florida and have insurance, you should be able to get it fixed for free. Something with the state laws concerning the front windshield. My deductible is $500 but i replaced my windshield and didn't pay a dime. Call up a glass company like Lee&Cates or something, and they'll take care of everything for you..even come and do the install at your house/work in under an hour.
