Default "Complete" Tuneup for Civic 98 LX

Okay guys, my car needs what people are calling a "complete" tuneup. I know that all shops have their own idea of what should be included in a full tuneup, but in your opinion, what should a full tuneup entail? And around how much should a California shop charge? I feel like sometimes a few of the shops here are dishonest with pricing and services because I'm a girl.

I drive a 98 Honda Civic LX and it's probably in need of at least belt changes & flushing all fluids. I have no idea of what else should be included, so if you give me your two cents, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you want OEM Honda tune up pieces (which you do if you want to do it the 100% right way) buy this set off ebay, it's really cheap. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-97...Q5fAccessories

Comes from a dealer direct in Cali.

Check air filter, fluids, and most of all your belts.

Just like everyone else said oil change, air filter, spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor, top off your fluids, and check belts.

The tune-up should be based on how many miles are on your engine and how well you've been maintaining it. If it's got over 100k, and you can't remember the last time it was serviced, you probably should do the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, valve adjustment, and an oil change at the very least. If you want the belts replaced as well, the labor will be about 4.5 hours at most shops, according to ALLDATA, and the rate can vary anywhere between 60 to 110 dollars per hour of labor. The key is finding a reputable shop with a low labor charge.

Keep in mind, though, that most businesses offer package deals for services like tune-ups and timing belts in order to draw in customers and keep their business. So, it's possible to find a place that will include all of those things for a set price. Be careful with the dealerships though, because they tend to overcharge and you really don't need to take your car to them for simple things like a tune-up. Good luck.
