They only work if your intake is completely submerged. So, if you drive your car around in bumper-high pools of water, get one. Otherwise, they are useless. They do NOT magically seperate water from air, if that was what your were thinking...

Well, according to where you are located, you are more than likely going to need it as some point in time.....and even if you arent driving around in pools of water, why risk it!? its better to be safe than sorry, unless of course you have money to throw around on a new engine.....

they don't work. The bypass valve basically defeats the purpose of having a CAI. Don't bother. Go short ram if you don't have the guts to use a CAI. Honestly, the bypass valve is worthless.

i dont understand how a byp *** valve works, when ur filter is completey submerged, then the engine sucks air through the by pass valve instaed? so that it has an alternative route of receiving air, rather then sucking up the water

am i right?

correct...

go with the new AEM V2, be hearin alot of cool **** about these things. i used to carry a flat head with me so when it started to rain i would pull up to a gas station and take off the cold air part and reattach the filter in the engine compartment

get a little wet save your motor and 50 bucks

my friend had an aem cai with a bypass valve. he said he felt a decrease in power with it... but i would think it works. i saw a test on super street or sport compact car .... they had the ***** to try it on an nsx!!!

Only because it was completly submerged in water. It takes a certain ampount of negative? pressure in order for the rubber one way valve on the bypass to open.

Yes, they were coming apart, getting sucked into the TB opening, locking the butterfly WFO.

True! It's like sticking a stopsign in the middle of a freeway...

You are 100% correct! Then, when the filter is un-submerged, the bypass valve closes and you end up sucking water into your engine anyway; the water that is 'standing' inside the intake tube.

Hopefully, by now, everyone is getting THE point, but just in case...

Air Bypass Valve
AEM’s patented air bypass valve virtually eliminates the chance of hydro-lock in the unlikely event the filter of your AEM Cold Air induction system becomes submerged in water. The valve installs along the upper portion of the inlet pipe and shuts down induction at the filter when it becomes submerged, rerouting air through its external diaphragm to keep water out and air flowing in.The AEM Air bypass valve is for use only on AEM Cold Air induction systems, and is not for use on forced induction vehicles. Pending C.A.R.B. exemption. No, ****... Here's a pic from the fabled AEM bypass/NSX test. This guy just pulled the air filter out of the fish tank (filter had to be SUBMERGED for the valve to open as noted above).

What do you think he is watching get sucked up the tube? Hint: it ain't air!

haha..that guy looks like the guy from that 70s show

anyways..thanx for all the feedback..for the most part i guess i'm gettin the impression that it does work but it's still a risk..b/c where i live..i have been submerged in at least 2 ft of water at one point and my stock motor blew b/c of no bypass valve

has anyone or has anyone heard a RELIABLE story where someone had a bypass valve and the motor still went when submerged in water?
