Default Clutch won't engage, help please.

I was on my home from work and the car started out all good and dandy, then after about 5-10 minutes I went to press in the clutch to down shift and the pedal went floppy and I couldn't get out of gear. I kept stomping on the pedal praying it would engage which it eventually did. Then I dealt with this the whole way home. When I arrived at home I managed to pop it into neutral and glide into my driveway. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to go back into a gear no matter how hard I tried, so I had to push it out and then up to the side of the road. Is it just a bad/loose cable??? Please help.

well seeing as how you're in the 92-00 section i'm going to venture to take a guess that your car falls under that category. if that's the case, then your clutch is hydraulically actuated. check the reservoir to the right of the master cylinder and see if its low. check for leaks there and at the slave cylinder on the transmission.

Most likely a hydraulic leak or you're running very low on fluid. I would start by checking that. Beyond those options, all that comes to mind is a bent shift fork (or whatever the little fork thing that actuates the throw-out bearing is called). Thats a bit more involved to fix...hope its the first option

i think what your trying to say is that when you press the clutch pedal down the clutch doesnt disengage. as in you press the pedal while driving in a gear and nothing happens. can you shift the transmission when the car is off? when the pedal went floppy did if come back up on its own or stay down? Also have someone push the clutch in and release it while pull back the boot on the clutch fork and see if it moves like its suppose to or not. if it moves its not a leak issue, but something with the pressure plate or clutch itself, or a transmission issue.

Yeah disengage, the pedal will stay down for the most part, on occasion it would pop back out.

Yep. You don't have a cable clutch in your 92, you have a hydraulic clutch.

Your problem is most likely caused by lack of pressure somewhere in the system. I've had it happen to me before just by clutch fluid being very low. If the problem continues after you fill it, look for leaks. If no leaks, then you have a more involved problem.

First check to see if you have any fluid in the resovoir, if you do, try bleeding the system, if it doesn't work. It could be your clutch,CM cylinder, your slave cylinder or a leak.
Ask to previous owner(since you picked this car up recently) ask him if he has changed any of these. I was having the same issue after I changed my clutch and I replaced the CM and the slave cylinder and it was working fine until one day the pedal stayed al the way down. I noticed I had a leak on the hose right before the slave, so I believe thats my problem. Im changing the hose soon.

check the lil fluid resvoir next to the master cylinder...you may have no fluid.

i would almost guess the slave is bad, did u have to put fluid in it anytime lately? otherwise there is really no way he got air in the fluid

check to see if the slave is moving the clutch fork when the clutch pedal is pushed down. if you can physically see the slave moving the clutch fork properly then there has to be an internal problem with the clutch. do this and narrow down what problem your looking for. it will tell you if the problem is inside the transmission or outside the transmission.

is the pedal hard? or does it stay at the floor? have you tried bleeding the system? its possible that you got air in it, especially if it works after you pump it a bit.
