Default Clutch Pedal Soft, Hold's High, Just replaced, didnt fix.

As stated, My clutch was finally giving after about 120K miles, so I replaced it today, but now the clutch pedal is really soft all the way to the floor, and it catches really high... Any ideas on a fix?

Stupid question, but did you bleed the lines thoroughly?

so you posted on here asking what to do before actually doing anythign? your right, normally when you just take the slave off and dont actually open the lines you shouldne need to bleed it. but if it feels like your describing i would bleed it anyways. if it doesnt change then its just the way that stock clutch feels.

You probably bought a soft pressure plate which would be soft on the foot and catch high because by the time it puts enough pressure for the clutch to catch the clutch pedal is already up high.

Yea, I had a stage 1 Zoom clutch and now i have a stock clutch and it feels way to dam soft and comes all the way out then takes off. i bleed the hell out of mine to. must just be the differences. I spilled oil on mine also so it slips.

i have the same problem... while i was swapping out my clutch my friend that doesnt really know about cars goes in my car and steps on the clutch... i read on a bunch of step by step diy that u should NEVER step on the clutch after the slave has been taken off... well needless to say my peddle is really soft and grabs high... i bled it and everything... feels just a bit better but nothing impressive... am i doing something wrong??? oh btw its a clutch kit i got off of ebay... its a green pressure plate with a 4 puck disk from clutch masters... i also put in new throwout bearings and pilot bearing... :-? im at a lost now

Hell no i wish. i rev up first gear and I'm lucky if it burns out and when i go to 2nd it revs to 6k i have to let off the gas then floor it again for it to catch. my zoom clutch was perfect though. I might just go with a ebay clutch pretty soon. and this new clutch the pedal comes all the way out then it starts moving. i though it would barely come out and then move since its new.

damn ... u should bleed the hell out of yours... bleed it through the slave too... when u got someone to step on the pedal to bleed push in the slave with your hand to get that extra bit of air in the slave... it might be better bro

Wow, hella reply's lol. Well no, I didnt fix it yet, im just driving it around as is. It feels fine when it engages, with a nice and confident grab. but yeah its really weird having it so soft and catching so high.... guh.. well seems like the best idea now is to bleed the line, and shop around for a stiffer pressure plate.

BLEED IT. After my swap my clutch pedal was uber soft. Bled the **** out of it and voila! Either get a buddy to help or buy a speed bleeder. Its easy **** and only takes a few minutes. Its the EXACT same thing as bleeding brakes.

Until no more air comes out. Its just like bleeding brakes. Mine was just pulled for my swap never disconnected the lines and still got air somehow. Just give it a good flush. I kept doing it and filled up the master probably 5-6 times.

Sort of irrelevant, but are you breaking in the clutch properly? This wouldn't cause the problem you describe, but it could cause your clutch disc to glaze over and not grab very well.

I would imagine that your pedal problem would make it very difficult to properly break in the clutch (always engaging it slowly/smoothly for the first few hundred miles... and not taking the RPMs up high (but this part regarding RPMs isn't relevant to the pedal problem... just the other part of breaking in the clutch).

when i get back to base imma re-bleed my clutch again and get everything nice and clean again... and i am breaking it in correctly im sure... under 3.5k rpm til i hit 500 miles ... only question is its a stage 4 clutch so do i really need to break it in??? what do you guys think???

Yes that's correct, but a new master and slave are always recommended with a new clutch (and of course you would have to bleed it then). You probably just need to adjust the engagement point on the clutch pedal. If it was adjusted properly with the old clutch then it will have to be re-adjusted to the new one. There is a jam nut and threaded rod on the part of the master cyl that connects to the clutch pedal this is where you make the adjustment.

Here is the page from the Honda service manual 96-00

Dude. Clutches are hydraulic. There is no need for an adjustment. Do you need to adjust brakes? (not including drums) No. Didn't think so.

Are you retarded? You can adjust the clutch pedal. That page wasn't in the FSM for nothing...

Well someone mentioned clutch pedal. Same thing. Either way it doesn't need to be adjusted.
