Civic not turning over. Starter relay?
So I was getting gas today and went to start the car to leave and bam. no start. If I hold the key in the cranking position and push and release the clutch I do hear a clicking under the dash but no turning over. I was able to get her bump started and she drove home fine. I removed the starter relay and am going to start there. What do you guys think?

could be clutch interlock switch, ignition switch, or starter solenoid.
when it acts up again have someone check voltage at the trigger wire on the starter. if you see voltage then the clutch switch and ign switch are fine, but starter/solenoid is likely toast. if no voltage then check the previously mentioned switches.

I forgot to mention that if I hold the key in the crank position, the radiator fan kicks on. I also just ran a lead from the solenoid switch(the black wire from the harness) to the positive battery terminal and it didnt crank over at all. I

interesting. i have to imagine it's not supposed to do that lol. when the car was running before did the fan always run? maybe your fan switch is muffed up.

Heh, I have this problem. My car would did this for a few months. Then it went away for 5 months, then it came back the other day... Hmm I'm lazy ( h22a in a few weeks, so i dont even bother with the old engine )
I would turn the key, hear the relay click, but no starty starty. Try about 8-10 times, and, boom. Sometimes its when you hold the key on, and pump the clutch.

The starter solenoid gets voltage on the small Blk/Wht wire. The starter motor gets voltage on the large Blk wire. Try the test again but run the wire from the battery to the Blk/Wht wire terminal. Of course, make sure the transmission is in neutral.

Sorry man my bad. I meant to say that I ran the wire from the battery + to the solenoid terminal on the starter(even fashioned my own little connector on the terminal end). And like I said. nothing. The starter made no sound.

Re: Civic not turning over. Starter relay?
I have the same issue (1995 honda accord dx 2.2 none vteck) yet when I ran the jumper to the starter the starter cranked. I checked all my fuses and they are fine, but the fuse ( No. 9 (7.5A))under the dash dose not light the test light. I preformed the Ignition switch test on the honda t-manual pg 23-74 step 3 position 1 failed. 2 and 3 worked. I am suppose to repair as necessary, but don’t have a clue what repair they are talking about. Thank you in advance for any help.

If the large Blk wire to the starter motor also has voltage and the transmission ground wire is fine, then your starter must be bad.

Re: Civic not turning over. Starter relay?
well I tested the solonoid voltage wire and there's juice to that. Took the starter in and had it tested. FAIL!!!! got the new starter in and I think that I'm having some grounding issues. I got it to fire up but there still some clicking and even sparks! I cleaned up the main power connector to the starter. What I'm wondering is there are 3 cables coming off of the tranny ground terminal. one goes right to the chassis, one goes to what looks like the vtec solenoid, and the last one I'm not sure where it's supposed to go. It came off from somewhere and now I can't find where it goes. It's an 8 gauge wire. I'm prolly going to replace the 4 gauge chassis ground with a nice new piece as this one looks like it's in pretty bad shape.

I've got a 1995 Civic EX similar issues. Mine is an automatic. Does not crank, fuel pump primes. No solenoid kick, no starter sound. Just replaced Main relay, did not help THIS issue(needed to be done anyway). Going to test voltage at the "solenoid trigger wire" next. Is that the small black & white wire?

It's not easy but look at the rubber button that makes the clutch interlock switch (obviously manual transmission only). Mine had dry rotted and fallen out.
