Default Civic EX with rear drums?

I recently bought a Civic EX coupe and just noticed it has rear drums in stead of disc brakes. Aren't all EX's suppose to come with rear disc brakes?

What year? I know that only the 96-00 EX's with ABS are the only ones that came with rear discs.

I believe after 94 you had to have ABS to get the discs?
My girlfriends 1994 ex has ABS and my buddy has a 1997 ex with no abs and he has drums.
Thats why I say this

It's a 96'. So I guess even though it's an EX, ABS is stil an option?

According to slhondaparts.com's part lookup interface...

USDM
1996 2DR EX 4AT non-ABS:
http://slhondaparts.com/browse...SK%29
1996 2DR EX 5MT non-ABS:
http://slhondaparts.com/browse...SK%29
1996 2DR EX 4AT ABS:
http://slhondaparts.com/browse...SK%29
1996 2DR EX 5MT ABS:
http://slhondaparts.com/browse...SK%29

Of the "EK" models (96-00), the 99-00 SI is the only one that shows a parts listing for the "Chassis/Rear Brake (DISC)" components... at slhondaparts.com...

If you're asking whether the 96 2DR EX had ABS as a brand-new dealership option, the answer is yes. But if you're asking whether *adding* ABS to a vehicle that doesn't already have it is possible... I guess the answer's still yes, but it's a MFPITA and is $$$$$$$$$$$

Good Luck!

Yeah I had a EK hatchback before and swapped GSR disc brakes all around. I always thought all EX's had disc brakes all around. Does EX's have bigger front brakes that's to par with the Si?

EX fronts and M/C are the same as the Si.

All of the 96-00 civics except for the Si came with drums. EVEN if you had ABS installed.
