civic 94, Power Steering Fluid, NEED HELP!!
Hi all! I bought my first car, a civic sedan 94 EX (Automatic) about 4 weeks ago. The power steering fluid level was law, and my mechanic has filled it with Transmission Fluid instead of using Honda Power Steering Fluid. However, In the Honda owners manual, it is said that the ‘Genuine Honda Power Steering Fluid - V‘ should be used. According to my mechanic, Honda has introduced a special Power Steering Fluid only to increase their sales, and normal Transmission Fluid does the same thing. However, I'm bit confused about this. If anyone knows, please let me know whether it is ok to use Transmission Fluid for Genuine Honda Power Steering Fluid...?

please seperate your sentences and use punctuation that was hard as hell to read..
anyway, alot of people will say that they are the same, and tranny fluid will work but the seals in the pump and rack will start to leak over time as it will dry them out, its better to get proper p.s fluid.
Ive never used the Honda stuff just whatever we had at work and never seen a problem with it.
so basically if its all you got you can use it, but its better to use the real thing.its up to you if you use the oem or whatever the gas station sells.
I suggest you find a mechanic who actually knows what he's doing and get the system drained, refilled and bled with p.s fluid

^^^ Agreed.
Just don't see the point in putting something that "might" work when he could've grabbed something with the word power steering fluid and filled it.

If it's laying around and you don't have ps fluid and you are confident enough to know that it'll work, you would use it.
It's probably just like adding water to your radiator if you accidentally spilled just a little bit somehow. You wouldn't go to the shop and buy more 50/50 coolant, would you? you would just add water.

Hi! Thank you very much for your comments.
Yes. Now I'm thinking about refilling with Genuine Honda Power Steering Fluid.
I better find a new mechanic too. This guy took $150s from me as the cost for Engine oil, Brake Fluid, and Spark Plugs, apart from his service charge.
