Changing Rotor problems.
I have some new brembo rotors and I am currently trying to put them on. What do yout have to take off in order to take the rotor off? Any tips or suggestions to make this go more smoothly?

Re: Changing Rotor problems. (bad93ex)
One of the easier maintenance/ mods. Excluding oil change......
Remove wheel
Remove caliper (which has 2 bolts holding in on, I think a 17mm and a 14mm or so)
Remove 2 Phillips head screws holding rotor on.
Installation is the exact opposite. However, you may have to compress the caliper a bit to fit it over the new rotors as they will be a tad thicker, you can compress them by hand.

removing the 2 screws on the rotor can be a bitch, you should get an impact driver from sears, they are like 15$.... after the screws are off unbolt the calipers from their brackets , then hit the rotors with a rubber mallet to free them.

So you are saying that I dont have to remove the hub.

There is always a "possibility", but as long as you don't over do it, you should be ok. In my relatively short experience modifying my own cars, I have found that one of the most important things I learned, is knowing when something needs a good whack. You kind of have to get over a fear of breaking stuff, because sometimes things need a good manhandling. This at least applied to me when I first started working on my suspension stuff, just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.

once you take the two screws out, the rotor should be free, try a rubber mallet to free the rotor as it may be a little corroded.

Also, if hitting it doesn't help, there's a way to use bolts or soemthing to "push" it off.

I will use a campaign of shock and awe with a runner mallet upon my stubborn brake rotor.
Such a nerd, I can't believe I laughed at that!

Re: Changing Rotor problems. (hatchdrvr)
a lot of times a rubber mallot is too soft, if you use a 3 or 5 lb hammer hit in between the lugs, it pops right off. i have replaced the brakes, cv boots, and and axle 4 times in the last 3 weeks, and i can tell you the brakes on that car is the easiest thing to fix. I took all 4 bolta out of the back of the caliper - the bracket to the hub bolts are 17mm, and the other 2 are 11 or 12 mm. hang that from your spring with a wire tie or coat hanger, and pop the old rotor off, use a wire brush to clean the rust off the hub, and slap the new one on
ps. now is a good time to paint the center of the rotor, while everything is apart and it wont look like hell when it gets a little surface rust
provided all goes well, pop the new one on (rotor), put the 2 screws back in, and rebolt the bracket, making sure the inner pad is on there, put the outer pad on, and slide the caliper around it all. torque everything up and youre ready to go.

if the rotors are stuck you can use an 8mm bolt to pry them off. there are extra holes that are threaded in the rotors just put the bolts in them and tighten. you can get the bolts at home depot there are two kinds of 8mm(thread) just get both if you need. good luck
