There is a set screw on it. If you cant see it crank the car over until it shows, remove the screw and slide it of the shaft. Thats it!

The cap and rotor install seem pretty straightforward from the previous threads but I would like to add another dumb question.
What tools are exactly needed for the installation of distributor cap, distributor rotor, spark plugs, and spark plug wires?
When performing this, are there any pitfalls that I need to avoid in order to ensure proper performance? I searched for a DIY topic like this but could not find one.
This seems like pretty easy preventative maintenance but a lack of confidence and Murphy's Law always seem to get the best of me when I work on my car.

Re: changing distributor cap and rotor...dumb question (LANL02)
U need a philips screw driver and maybe an 8mm socket if the screws are on too tight. Unbolt the 3 screws i think it is on the cap, take it off, them unscrew the rotor. Put on the new rotor and make sure its on good bcuz u dont want the screw coming loose and falling out. Then put on the new cap. If you know how to use a take a lid off a can of soup, then u should know how to do this, its one of the most simplest things to do

Re: changing distributor cap and rotor...dumb question (eg cookiemonster)
For spark plugs, you just need a spark plug socket, a 6-8" extension, and a little anti-seize. Also good to have a piece of silicon/rubber tubing to slide over the spark plug to start threading it in. If you use a wratchet to do this, then there is a possibility that you will crossthread the spark plug.
