Default Changed brake pads, had to leave out pad's metal plate. Is it a problem?

I changed my front brake pads today and on the driver side, everything fit fine. But my passenger has been in damaged in an accident so the pad didnt fit too well. I could get the caliper back on if i took out the metal plate, but i couldn't if i kept the metal plate on. So i installed it without the pad's metal plate. Is this going to be a problem or is it nothing to worry about. thanks.

you ever heard of pushing back the piston? Those pads are there to insulate the vibration which causes a high pitched squeeling noise.

i pushed back the piston all the way already, again.. passenger side was damaged in a accident in the past, so i'm thinking that's part of the reason?

Edit: Test drove it after i installed the brakes. Everything seems fine and no squealing noise yet. anyone else with insight please

It'll be fine. If it ever does start to squeak you can put some of that disc brake quiet goo on the back of the pads to take the place of the shims.

Why not get a reman caliper? I wouldnt put my life on the line with a possibly damaged caliper. Does it leak at all?

i wouldn't think that it would damage the caliper, if anything it would damage the pad. And no it doesnt leak at all. thanks guys

I would replace anything that is damaged. Especially stuff like brakes. It could mean either have a car, or have a crashed pile of ****.

Well I'm not really sure if it will cause an issue, but wiht something as VITAL as brakes I would not evne chance putting it back together without all the needed parts.

alright... how would create more room to fit the piece in? i pushed the piston all the way back already and i still cant get it in. Im thinking that i need to wear down the pad a little bit until i have enough room to put the caliper on. Any other ideas anyone?

If it fit when you took it out, then it will fit when you put it back together. The trick is figuring out how exactly it will work......trust me on this one though.

it fit when i took it out because the pad was worn. lol. but i sat there i tried to do almost everything.. frigging thing wouldn't go in. The driver side was real easy. But the passenger side was a hassle.

theres no reason it shouldnt fit now. dont use the accident as an excuse. if the caliper is still the same shape, and works, the shim will fit back on. the accident had nothing to do with a .5mm piece of metal not fitting back on the brakepad.

Im not using it as an excuse. I'm just saying the passenger side should be the same as the driver side, but its not. So i am thinking it is from the accident. And why the hell would i need to make an excuse? And its pretty obvious that the .5mm piece of metal makes a big difference in fitment.

With the .5mm piece of metal = won't fit

Without the .5mm piece of metal = fits, but a very very tight fit

Please if you have some helpful input let me know.

loosen the bleeder screw, take large channel locks and squeeze the piston back into the cali... then put that metal plate "shim" back in. It is just for noise dampening and won't hurt anything it just might be annoying later on down the road.

i used a c.clamp to push the piston back into the cali. I pushed it to the point where i couldn't push it in anymore. But if its not much of a problem ill just put it in later on. Thanks alot JDMSi92.
