CEL on! 96 EK with obd1 p28! tried everything. Help?
Hello, let me explain what the problem is:
i have a b20 vtec with chipped p28 ecu tuned with Crome.
i have an Air/Fuel gauge, and it started acting funny (going from rich to lean all the time and just spinning around. it stopped being accurate). I just ignored it. Then, about 3 days later, i redlined my car (i have Check engine shift light) but the check engine light stayed on. i figured it was the o2 sensor so i replaced it with a brand new Bosch unit, still has CEL. (car had a Denso sensor on it, i switched to Bosch. Could that be the problem?)
My Air/Fuel gauge was spliced into the previous o2 sensor wire ( i guess thats the incorrect way to do it, it should have its own o2) but anyway i connected the 2nd one like that and the gauge says the car is ALWAYS running rich, i cant get it to 'lean out' even with engine braking.
When i give it throttle under 4k RPM's, it bogs down(no power at all). I tried jumping the service connector to get the CEL to flash so i could get the code, but the CEL just stays on, it won't flash at all. so what do I do? what could be the problem? why is the service connector jumper not working?
-i've reset the ECU
-i've replaced the O2
-i've jumped the service connector
-i've unplugged the Air/Fuel gauge from the O2, still has CEL
-car is running like CRAP
any input appreciated,
Graham

Is it a wideband gauge? If not it's just a glorified light show and does nothing. Get a real wideband. Is it actually tuned on CROME or are you running only a basemap (bad idea)? IIRC a solid CEL is an indicator of a bad ECU. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

yes its an autometer wideband gauge (i believe)
this is the gauge i have - http://www.speedshop.org/store/ProdI...eter_small.JPG
yes, its fully tuned with Crome by Felix Medina in NJ, not just a basemap.

also i forgot to mention- it says to NOT start the car when you are looking for the CEL flashes, but i have the starter hooked up to a switch in the glove box, so when i turn the key, the car doesnt know if its 'on' or 'off'. could that be the prob?

just started the car and the flashing CEL thing worked. it flashed 9 times then stopped. then flashed nine times again, then stopped. it just kept repeating the 9 flashes over and over then i just shut the car off. so what does this mean? it says 9 flashes is a CYP or Cylinder Sensor? whats this?
