Default Carbon in Fuel Lines

I finally broke down and sent my '97 LX to the dealership for a checkup because I couldn't fix my cel code P0170 P0171, and 10+ mpg hit.

They said o2 was bad.....and they replaced it for free. wtf?!

Then he said that the fuel lines and what not had alot of carbon buildup and it needed to be cleaned with some sorta special carbon serice. $130 for this service.

anybody heard of this or done this ???

usually not carbon in fuel lines, but sludge if anything. o2 free is because they are required by law to replace faulty emmisions equipment.

REALLY?

it doesn't matter how old the car? or brand or make of car?? If it is an emmisions related part, it must be fixed for free??

hey o2 sensors are the biggest rip offs of mechanics today. If you can get your own o2 sensor out, clean the carbon deposits off and they usually work 99% afterwards. They say they brake so they can clean it and put it back and charge you for a new one. SO they just pulled it out and cleaned it and put it back and told you that to make you feel good about it so that you wouldn't mind paying for $130 for carbon deposits in your fuel lines, which is BS!!!! CArbon can't get in your fuel lines, unless you have been puttin some carbon deposits in your gas tank after each fill up. Tell them thanx for the new o2 sensor(BS) and that you will pick it up and take care of this CARBON DEPOSITs yourself, lol. Your cars fine, just don't WASTE money, when gas is the way it is. good luck

he was more tham likely talking about carbon/nasty buildup in the intake. $130 dollars is lot of money to have your car "seafoamed"

No that is bullshit. I think its up to 70,000 miles on emissions warranty. Honda had a service campaing on the first years of the 6th gen Civic which was more then likely why the o2 sensor was repalced.

packthis is right. $130 is CHEAP when you go to a Honda dealer to work on anything on your car. If they say like $100-200, you can do it yourslef for like $5-10. intake can have carbon deposits, after a long time of running(alot of miles). but it's not difficult, bring it home and just ask how to do it, cuz I'm not an expert on that. good luck tho.
