car wont rev past 2200rpm ?????
ok so i have a 97 Civic DX, and a 95 D16Z6 (completely rebuilt), this motor is brand new and i didnt buy it with an ECU so i used an OBD2 ECU to get it primed and running until i could get an OBD1 ECU and the OBD2a to OBD1 jumper harness, and it wont rev past 2200rpm. Im not suprised that it didnt with the OBD2 ECU as it has no crank position sensor, but now that ive hooked up the jumper harness and OBD1 ECU it still wont rev past 2200 rpm.
anyone know what could cause this?

Re: car wont rev past 2200rpm ?????
with the OBD1 ecu it runs perfect until 2200 and i saw no smoke at all coming out of the exhaust. (i dont have a catback exhaust, its just the headers+cat, im waiting on UPS for my catback) i have a POS air/fuel gauge thats reading all the way rich, i put the stock fuel pump back in cuz i thought maybe it was getting too much fuel? but that didnt change it, it still cuts out.

hmmm, thats a tuffy.. check just to make sure you didnt mix up your tps and your map sensor connectors...tps should have a red/blu wire and map should have a yel/grn or a yel/red wire
whats it doin at 2200, is it bouncin like a rev limiter? or does it die?

it just acts like its cutting out like a rev limiter. im positive the sensors arent mixed up because id switched them back and forth just to make sure which one goes where, it wouldnt rev over 1500 with them switched around and it didnt run very good at that.

i cant read the check engine lights with OBD1 ECU but i hooked up the OBD2 ecu to read the codes, while the car was not running it came up with
P1509
Manf Cntrl Veh. Spd.
Idle Speed Control
Auxilary Inputs
While the car was running it came up with,
P0335
Crank Position
Sensor A Circuit
Malfunction
P0135
02 Sensor Heater
Circuit Malfunction
(Bank 1 Sensor 1)

What do you mean you can't pull codes with the OBD-1 ECU? The reason the OBD-2 ECU is running like **** is because of no crank position sensor.

because i dont have access to an OBD1 scanner. i conveniently work at a parts store so i have access to an OBD2 scanner but we dont sell OBD1 scanners here and even if i could special order one its mega expensive

Re: car wont rev past 2200rpm ?????
there is a plug near the ecu underneath the kickpanel that you jump by putting either a piece of wire or a paperclip in and it makes the check engine light flash on the dash and you read that to check the codes. Take 2 seconds to look it up yourself then go from there.
As for the weird idle, I just put a gsr in my Si and Had asimilar problem but I think what my problem was was the fact that I had the map and tps sensor plugs mixed up. Post back and let us know what codes you pull up

Re: car wont rev past 2200rpm ?????
i switched around the tps and map sensor again last night just to double check, i had them right to begin with because when i switched it around it ran like **** and as soon as it got up to 2k rpm it just died. so i know the plugs are correct.

no, hes talking about taking a piece of electrical wire, like 3 inches long or so, and reaching up behind your glove box, there are two open plugs, on is a 3 pin plug, the other is a 2 pin i believe with green/white wires, and sticking your 3 inch piece of wire, one side in one pin, and the other side in the other pin(jumper) and your check engine light will flash telling you a code. do not use the 3 pin connector
as for the guy above with the idle issues with black smoke, switch your tps connector and your map connector around, you have them backwards
