Car stuck in gear: clutch is sponge like. Won't shift out..
Car is stuck in gear. Ran just fine before I parked it a couple hours ago. Now all of a sudden it won't go into gear and won't shift out of gear while car is off. Like I said before car was running fine right before hand and now that I parked it, the car won't go in or out of gear. Any ideas on what could be wrong and why it would be doing that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Alright. Just threw the car in gear while it was on and it stalled. Would that be a slave cylinder?

This happend to my moms car, the clutch pedal was stuck to the ground and would not engage. I thought it was the clutch bearing or the teeth on the pressure plateaube some teeth had broken off and were stuck. After I took it to a local mechanic it was neither d
It turned out to be some clutch pieces broke. $350 later because the tranny needed to be droped the car now works perfectly. I would start at the clutch bearing and then go from there.

Same thing happened to my hatchback. To fix the problem you will need a replacement clutch. Make sure to bleed the clutch after everything is back on. It will go into gear smoothly after that. Goodluck

Clutch master? Similar thing happened to me cuz it was leaking. Resevoir was empty. Filled it up and no probs. New one is waiting at the shop to be installed during the swap.

Wow lets get a few question asked before jumping into what the fix is. Can you sift through all the gear with the car off? start the car and pump the clutch pedel several time really fast dose the pressure change and can you get the car into gear? crawl under the dash look where the clutch pedel attaches is it wet on the fire wall? Pull the rubber boot off the slave cylinder and look for moisture around the piston is it wet? post your answers and we will be better able to help you

As for shifting through the gears, I did pump the clutch and brake and while the car was off it did allow me to shift threw the gears normally, then let it sit for a minute or two and I couldn't shift them normally at all....I threw it in reverse while the car was off made sure it would still grab and it did thankfully, but once I turned it back off, it gave me a really hard time going back into what gear I was looking for off and of course turned on.

well if it does end up being a pressure plate or something of that nature, being i'm new to the Honda game where are good spots to get a clutch for a decent price?

The fact you can get the car into gear tells me that in all likely hood your problem is in the hydraulic system. The best thing to do is check both the slave and master cylinder for leaks. As inexpensive as tse pats are I always change them together to avoid any problems down the road

If you pedal is squishy like you mentioned then yea its probably that slave cylinder, good thing is that a kit cost about 20 bucks. Just like your brakes when they feel squishy it means your master cylinder is going out.

alright, checked everything out, I was actually empty on fluid....wtf right.
Anyways, refilled the fluid, checked for leaks and noticed it was somewhat damp around the master cylinder...I'm pretty positive the hose needs replaced...had it checked out as well and the mechanic said the the same thing.
checked the fluid again today and the fluid hasn't moved so it must be a really slow leak...going to replace the hose asap.
I appreciate all of your help...i'm steadily starting to figure things out again...it's been so long since i've been involved with repairing and knowing what was what with vehicles.
anyways, thanks for the help.
