hey guys.. i went out to start my car after 5 mins ago when i just got home, now it wont start. it is raining and what not but the car is making a ticking sound, no cranking, ignition coil is good, power everything, just no starting! its not cranking just a tick tick tick tick

dead battery probably. check voltage of battery, then check grounds (4 total), then check voltage to starter if all that checks out.

but i have power.. the tickingi s really loud i saw the groud one from vc, one near transmission, where is the other two?

check ur plugs..another ground is on the top piece of where the bumper and hood meet....but dude im almost positive its ur battery....starter or alternator ? u got lights n such so u kno its not ur battery?

if your battery is dead you may still have enough to power things like door ajar light and dome lights, interior lighting etc....but not nearly enough to start your car....

true DC-2 but....if it was just running 5 mins ago it should have enough power to TRY to turn over and not just tick...if lights are at full power and theres SOME power? the engine would try to turn.

its a jdm b16, i know the plugs and eveyrthing is good. i have lights, power everything

its something with ignition....if u kno u have battery power...if its a stick try popping the clutch....that way u can see if its electrical or mech...

i checked it again.. its ticking from the starter. but its really loud?

the car does not crank.. but i seem to have power, radio works, lights, wipers, windows, everthing. just its not cranking? could this be the battery even though all this works

Could be a bad starter gear, my friends b18 has that problem. Try either jump starting the car by popping the clutch while rolling, or what we usually have to do is just roll the car back a little bit so that the driveline turns and the starter will catch, typically after that then the car will crank.

whats a starter gear? im going to try and push start it but i cant till friends get home.. hard to do it myself

Well the starter gear from what I understand is the gear that actually attaches the starter motor to your engine so it can crank it. I'm no expert by any means though so maybe the system works a little differently than that in your car :/

open the drivers door start pushing the car back hop in put in reverse dump clutch and viola. on a side note tap on the starter a few times with a pipe of cresent wrench or something

If it's a bad starter, it should only click once per time, a bad battery will tick multiple times as it can't maintain a strong delivery of charge so it gives enough to start the relay(this is why it clicks) then it drops the charge and gives it agian so you get a tick tick tick tick. If it's a bad battery, you can loose enough charge not to start the car in 5 min. Try jump starting with another car or battery pack.

If you're getting a rapid repeating click from the starter solenoid that sounds like a woodpecker, the battery is dead. Period. It doesn't matter how many lights and accessories are still working, because the battery doesn't have enough power to allow the starter motor to turn the flywheel.

If you're just getting a single click when you turn the key, then you have either a bad starter motor, loose battery terminal, or a bad ground.

well the guy at pep boys said my batter was definately dead. bought a new battery and it still did no help. should i go get my old one back? and i popped started the car, what does this mean? but then when i turned the car off i tried started the car and it did the ticking again, but it eventually stopped and there was no more ticking. im guessin the starter went bad? help!

Hit your starter 2-3x with a hammer and it should start, and then tommarow go buy a new starter.

Nah its your grounds, check the neg ground and ground from your valve cover make sure there not corroded if so take out the bolts and sand the area down.

sounds like a dead battery. Do the stuff that doesnt cost you a thing first... Like checking things. lol

CHARGE the battery and Im willing to bet it'll start.
