Cant put my car into gear w/o forcing
Basically i cant put my car into gear without forcing it into gear i think that my clutch master cylinder is going out or my slave cylinder is shot to hell. When i drive i cant put it into first gear or any other gear for that matter, then when i do force it into first gear my car will move forward with my foot still on the clutch and my other foot completely off the gas. <- THAT'S WEIRD! sometimes it will grind when im shifting gears and its just is fucked. I was thinking about draining the clutch fluid completely but im not sure where i do it at so if you guys could get a pic or something telling me where it is that would be awesome and if you can figure out my problem that's even better. Thanks for the help.

Re: Cant put my car into gear w/o forcing (Ricta)
Drained it and now i think i got air in the Clutch master cylinder lines and now my clutch pedal wont come back when i push it down it just stays as if i was bleeding the clutch. So how would i go about fixing this problem? BTW im doing this by myself due to lack of support of family/friends

did you drain the system dry and let air into the line or did you flush it by pushing the old fluid out with fresh fluid??

Re: Cant put my car into gear w/o forcing (kkim)
I will tell you every step i did:
1) Got a little tube and connected it to the nipple on the bleeding line
2) Put the tube into a 20oz bottle that was tucked on top of my radiator
3) I then screwed the bleeding screw away from the engine as it got loose
4) I took off the cap on my reservoir and then proceeded to pump my clutch
5) Drained all of it out
6) Then took the tube off of the nipple and tightend the screw till it was tight
7) Unscrewed my reservoir and disconnect the tube running to the clutch master cylinder and cleaned out the reservoir (it was black and chunky looked BAD)
8) Connected the reservoir back up to the clutch master cylinder and screwed back onto the car
9) Filled up my reservoir with my clutch fluid
10) Pressed and de-pressed the clutch with the reservoir cap off
11) Got stumped on why my clutch wasant stiff anymore and felt like i was drainging my fluid w/ fluid in it and the bleeder screw tightend
I know i prolly got air into the lines so how would i go about getting the air out to fix this problem or if im wrong what would the problem be? Thanks for help

Re: Cant put my car into gear w/o forcing (Ricta)
You filled your entire system w/ air... that's why you have no pressure.
connect the tube back up to the bleed nipple, loosen the bleed nipple a bit and then work the clutch a few times to get some fluid into the clutch MC to prime it.
After you have primed the MC and since you are working by yourself, you can gravity bleed the clutch line by just leaving the nipple open and letting the fluid flow through the sytem. You should be seeing bubbles coming out the tube. keep the reservoir relatively full and don't let it empty as that will let air into your system... not good. when you are satisfied that all the air is out of the system, close the bleed nipple and see if you have pedal pressure. you may have to do this a few times to insure you've gotten all of the air out of the system.
good luck... hope this helps.

Ok awesome i got all of the air out and the clutch reads normal now YAY Thanks . But .... im still having the same problem GAY YES I KNOW! Well looks like i am going to have to replace either the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder DAMMIT!! MORE MONEY So if you guys could help me determine wich one is the problem and so i can save some money and not buy both of them and it wind up only being the $10 slave cylinder instead of the like $100 clutch master cylinder you would be awesome. Please HELP ME I CANT DRIVE MY CAR AND I WORK

Re: Cant put my car into gear w/o forcing (Ricta)
were you losing fluid when you were having a problem shifting? only thing that can be wrong w/ either the slave or the master is that either/both are leaking fluid. Check under your dash or firewall in the engine compartment for a leaky MC or check near your trans for a leaky slave. one of them has to be leaking if you think either is bad. if not then I'd suspect something else.

Re: Cant put my car into gear w/o forcing (kkim)
None of them have any sign of leaking at all the only other thing that it could be is that like one of my springs on my clutch could have broken. But if that happend i would not be able to put it into gear at all right? i mean i can put it in gear when its off like super easy but its only when its on is when it gives me the trouble

Re: Cant put my car into gear w/o forcing (Ricta)
look up underneath the dash by the clutch pedal and see if you can see any fluid leaking out of the master cylinder into the cabin.
i'm not sure how to tell if it's the master cylinder of the slave cylinder that's the problem, i'm sure someone else knows.

Re: Cant put my car into gear w/o forcing (Ricta)
Did this problem start overnight or has it been a long term problem?
If your not leaking any clutch fluid and your tranny fluid it fine......then I'd say replace the clutch. My friend just had the same problem with his 99 GSR. We change the tranny fluid and bleed the clutch line but the problem was still there. I replaced the clutch and everything is back to normal now. Turned out to be a broken clutch disk. Good Luck.

for tranny fluid replacement...

also, going back to the clutch master/slave issue... does it improve shifting if you pump the clutch a few times and then shift?
