Can I use Hondabond on VTEC solenoid gasket?
I have a small oil leak there and want to know if using Hondabond is okay. This would save me from ordering new solenoid gaskets since I already have the Hondabond.

Well I usually don't. I just had a full 180k service done at Honda last summer. But would this be okay in the meantime until I can afford new gaskets?

Are you SURE it at the solenoid and maybe not the distributor o-ring, or the valve cover gasket, or even maybe some serious blow-by?
And yea..i think the gasket is not much more than hondabond...Just do it right.

Re: Can I use Hondabond on VTEC solenoid gasket?
Guys, I know I need a gasket. I already placed the o-ring and valve cover gasket. There is oil coming from the VTEC solenoid. Now, the question was can I use Hondabond for a little while or not? Do you guys have answers or just like saying "do it right you cheap skate?"
Only $17 is more than I have right now and the closest Honda dealership is an hour away.
Oh, and I've read a thread where they replaced the solenoid gasket and it still leaked. I don't know why I asked.

That was replaced already as well in the 180k service, and is on the other side of the engine.
Original D16Z6. I'm going to go unbolt the solenoid and see what's up.

much less the vtec spool valve, 2 reasons:
#1: it's just plain dumb
#2: if you use to much the excess can get caught in the oil passages and cause untold damage
stick with the gasket, it's only three bucks at your local honda dealership

I want going to replace the gasket with Hondabond, just use a little on the edges like you would on a valve cover gasket. not IN the freakin oil passage, just where the flanges meet.

For temporary, yes...it'll work, but i'd give time to let the hondabond cure before even driving. And by temporary I mean for only a couple of days...if even...max a week. Then get a new gasket, clean the surface off and reinstall!! 8)

Well there are two gaskets. The upper where the solenoid bolts to the lower filter portion, and the one that seals on the head with the mesh filter. Putting Hondabond on the upper portion could work because you have a lot of flange to work with.
BUT
The consensus is that no Hondabond whatsoever should be used on any part of the VTEC solenoid, even in conjunction with the gaskets. Honda made these gaskets to be able to seal oil on their own. Mine are old, and the top one is brittle and cracking. So I'll dish out the money and get some new ones.
