Can I pass smog with a cracked manifold?
So I need to smog my car ASAP, and I get a CEL .. O2 sensor. I take the heat shield off, and see this:
Now, obviously this looks pretty goddamn nasty.
However, I really DON'T want to buy another freaking manifold, especially since I'm swapping the engine after I pass smog.
Can I just replace the sensor, and will I get away being able to pass smog with a huge crack like that on the manifold?

Re: (jerbear!)
I have a cracked manifold too, but i dont need to worry about smog. JB weld doesnt work. (already tried it) and you can weld cast iron to last

toss the heat shield back on and go get tested. since smog tests are tail pipe end the car will probably give better results with the cracked manifold as the hydrocarbons, CO and NOx are being pumped out pre-cat and never reach the sniffer... lol

Thats nice and all but you CANNOT take a smog test with a CEL. At least thats how it is in California
EDIT: I just noticed original poster is from SD. If you need another 4 wire o2 sensor hit me up, Im local

Depends on what type year civic he has. I know the 92-95 civic clusters dont have a bulb for the cel. I think its an led thing inside the actual cluster.

Call honda because that header is under warrenty in our cars and the warrenty was extended to 150K miles. Mine cracked before at about 105K miles and honda replaced everything for free, so do that first.
As far as emissions, you should be fine. I don't think they pop your hood. They didn't on mine. The only way it will hurt is if its like mine was, when the header cracked, the idle was crazy as hell and I kept getting o2 sensor cels, so in that case, the random motor idling might make you fail.
But you could always try. Its free till you pass

When I've had my car tested in NY and MA, they hooked up to the ECU to read any codes. If it comes up with anything, you fail. Of course, some of the hick areas in NY don't bother, but MA is all computerized, and I'd assume CA is the same.

yeah you're f$cked
All NJ and NY connect to your diagnostics ports, so if and when they plug it in and you still havea cell, you'll fail. I assume though that since there is a crack, your highly likely to pass because like the guy above said, less emissions will be come from your exhaust
hehe

Not all NY... downstate was the only part of NY that actually did diagnostic checks up until today Dec 1st.... now all of NY state is required to diagnostics on all OBDII cars.... so everyone 95 and down is cool...

Re: (slamdcivic)
you definiatly wouldn't pass the reason you have a cel light is cause on every exhaust has back pressure the flow of the exhaust gasses will pull air throughafter every exhaust stroke then the o2 will detect that the a?f ratio is to lean and try to comp for it when it doesnt see the reading getting afftected by the increase fuel mixture it will set a cel and you should probably notice your car running shitty also because of the ecu trying to correct the lean condition it will make HC emmisions high and probably making the cat work way to much trying to clean that rich mixture up so Nox emmision would fail as well
