Is buying used 60% tread tires any good?
Hi, someone here is selling SIR rims to me with stock tires at a reasonable price
He said there is 60% tread left on the tires, I want to know:
is 60% far from bald? or almost looks like new?
How long can 60% last me? (drive about hour each day)

Have him keep the tires, knock 100.00 off the price and then get new ones for maybe 250.00 for the set. I wouldn't recommend getting tires with 60% tread because there is really no estimate on how long they will last. Could be a month, or 1 may blow tomorrow. Plus, if the tread is uneven at all you will notice that car doesn't ride as smooth. I just put Brank Yoko's on my civic and they are so smooth at 100mph it's like you're doing 40mph

Do you have some way of measuring 60%? Try a new tire and find how deep the original is to see if it's about half. When people say 60%, they mean 30%. That's how you sell. Let's assume it's true.
Half life tires should last about 15K miles. Again, "should." Tires also could be damaged, the steel belts inside etc that you can never tell from the outside. I have run 30K mile tires over 30K on my last set. There was still meat left on all four. However, one of the tires started to crack and bust on the side wall. Could have blown and got me killed - if I did not have the strange urge to rotate my tires that weekend.
I would not really pay for used tires at 60%. I know you must be on a tight budget, so I would really want to look to see if the meat is still good.
Again assume that it's true, I would not pay more than $50 over the price of the wheel.
