Default Broken Transaxle???

After some "spirited" launches, my car started making a clunking noise while turning. I drove the car home and lifted the car up on jackstands. While turning one wheel, both wheels spin like they should, but occasionally one wheel would be spun and the other would not spin as if there were stripped gear teeth somewhere. While the car was up on jackstands we also turned the car on and put it in first gear and let out the clutch. At times only one wheel would spin. All the halfshafts are spinning ok, so I'm guessing the problem is inside the tranny case. Anyone have any info on my situation, and how much it would cost to fix?

Its not a broken Transaxle, Being it would not move at all!!

Perhaps it is somthing in case, First thing i would do is take the clutch cover off (located ont the bottom of tranny near oil pan) Inspect the clutch!

If all else fails, Yank the tranny out, Take it somewhere or perform work your self!!

I'm a friend of his...
I was there when we checked the problem out..
It's post clutch/transmission. Somewhere from the differential to the
start of the half-shafts..
Looks like stripped teeth.

hey i have the same problem with mine...but i have had this a couple times before...its atually the cv joint. if you have taken one apart before you will see why. mine have actually distorted a little so when the axles are cold they will click, but when they warm up it gets much quiter almost so that you cant hear it. look at the cv boots for excess grease because it will most likely it spit some out. if it continues to the point where it sounds like someone beating your fender with a rubber mallet then you have a broken cv joint and you need a new one... good luck

Would a broken CV joint explain intermitent powerloss to
one wheel? If my experiance serves me correctly i dont think so.. but explain
if you think it is..
I think it's broken spider gears in the diff...

Was he running a stock clutch? Cuz I'm using a 6 puck sprung hub disk and am thinking of switching back to a full face clutch.

He was running a clutchnet 6puck sprun clutch. ( i had the same one and loved it). The dif shoot 2 holes in the tranny, one one the top and one on the bottom. So even the casing is totaled. HIs was the same way as yours after about a year of racing he started to hear a very light clunk sound as if a bearing was taking a crap. Then one day he pull up to run at the track and does a huge burn out. Pulls to stage. Lights go green he drops the clutch (rather than slip it like i told his *** with b16 trannys) and then a shoot gun is hurd as he sits there still. There were spiders all over the track. Come to find out the shaft that holds the spiders on had snaped in the middle. But get this my other boy pulls up with his fully modded ford zx2 (supa fast car) He had jsut put in a phantom slip block diff junk setup. He does a 2wheel locked burnout ( looked great) then goes to launch at the lights, loud bang, no go. same problem. What i have learnt if your ride is not RWD and you plan to go really fast, then buy a real LSD.
Oh the first guys car made the clunk noise right when he would come out of a hard left right hand turn at any speed. This gave us the info that it was gonna take a **** soon. When does yours make noise?
Oh and its not the clutch its the shitty stock diff. Save the money and get the lsd its money well spent and there easy as hell to install.

How much would a shop charge to install an LSD, or any diff for that matter? And yeah, my car makes a loud clunk noise after a left or right turn. Would it be safe to drive it to a dealer or mechanic?

honestly man i think it would be about 200-300 bucks and that depends on how well the shop knows honda diffs. Personally I think that if you can install a set of cams or a clutch then a diff is a piece of cake. Its very easy to do and most of the time its talked up so much that the job scares people of. **** payme 10bucks via paypal and ill walk ya through it over the phone while you are doing the job. All you need is
Metric hand tools. (wrench and stuff, the normal crap)
feeler gauge, 10 bucks at sears
hammer
tube of hondabond, 6bucks
access to a machine shop to remove and install speedo gear
machine shop to pull bearings unless you wanna give it a shot yourself
and thats it man. I plan to make a mpeg of an install just to put up on kazza for others to watch. its cake man. Oh a service manual is nice but online help is just as good with the right people. Beware there are a ton of parts in there, you just have to becarefull and its easy

I think we're going to take it to the dealer tomorow and see what they say about it... I'd say me and him could drop the tranny and do the install but we only have a week till we need to drive back up to Orlando to go back to school..
If something goes wrong and we couldnt get it in time.. hed be screwed..
