would that cause it to die when im driving though??

cause the other day i was driving it and all my lights started dimming out...bad like i had to turn my brights on and i barly could see anything.....

then i came up to a stop sign and i slammed on the gas after stopping and when i shifted into 2nd real hard all my lights came back on...

so yeah.

would that still be a short?

get a multimeter and check to see if your charging system is actually charging the battery. see how many volts its getting when the car is at idle...i think its supposed to be around 14...mine was...but if it isnt charging its your alternator, if it is charging your battery or terminals are junk. p.s. if your batter isnt charging check all the connections at the battery, starter, and alternator, then check to see if the fuse for the alternator sensor is blown.

Sounds like you have parasitic drain somewhere in the system.

Any recent audio installations? Grounding kits? Foglights?

This little fragment of information suggests to me that you have a loose connection or ground somewhere. There's no other logical explanation for that kind of charging system behavior.

my first step would to see how much parasitic draw there is. check current flow, and 50mA is a good refernce number.

Deffinitely do a parasitic draw test. I mean a basic (and NOT efficient way) to check is to see if anything still turns on when the car is off. Sometimes it's the radio or something stupid like a defroster too. But it still sounds like an alternator problem. I know you just put a new one on but it still could be bad. Was it a rebuild? Also check to make sure your ground and power connections to and from the alternator are secure and tight.
