Default Bleeding Question

96 Civic EX

I attempted to bleed my cooling system about 1 month ago, I get random running hot at idle ( happens like once a month) and think there is air in the system.

My fan does come on.

First attempt to bleed I do not think worked because of the random running hot and I can hear gurgling in the heater core in the dash.

Should I do it again, anyone have this problem getting the air out, any tips?

I have followed the proper bleed procedure as posted on here.

Just bleed it longer- as long as it takes.

Ok, just bleed again.

The thermostat did open and saw flowing coolant.

The fan came on twice.

I did notice bubbles, is that air?

Also, as it ran coolant was steaming a little (was about 45 degrees out), is that normal?

ok, try and put the car uphill.. use ramps, jack, whatever

start car with cap off
turn on the heat full blast
rev engine a little to get water moving..

when the level goes down, fill it up, keep doing this till no more bubbles come to the surface.

Do you see a continuous stream of bubbles in the coolant? If so, could be a head gasket problem that is allowing exhaust gases in the cooling system.

Hard to explain, sort of random bubbles it seems like. I also checked the overfill no bubbles in there.

I did a block test like 2 months ago, came out ok.

I assume some bubbles is normal air still in there?

There should be no gas bubbles in the cooling system.

Most videos I saw online when someone was bleeding the system has some sort of bubbling.

What does air look like when it is the system if it is not bubbles?

What Ron is saying is

"if the bubbles continue to be coming up and dont stop, you have a headgasket issue."

If you followed my advice up there, and done it correctly, you should see no bubbles.

I did not have a chance to get the front up, but I do not really hear the gurgling in the heater core anymore.

There might be a little air in there and I am impatient and do not want to do it more than 1/2 hour, or possibly a head gasket issue.

I am wondering I have had a random ( like once a month) run hot at idle for 6 months or so, replaced fan switch got better.

If the headgasket was bad, wouldn't after 6 months it would go by now?

Then what do you want people to tell you?
If there are bubbles because of a failed head gasket then it has already "gone". I don't know what you're expecting.

Took it in to the dealer.

Block test, came out ok........so I guess a some bubbles does not mean failed head gasket.

Pressure test came out ok, no leaks.

They could not make it run hot again, which does not surprise me.

To play it safe I had the thermostat changed, I will watch it for now on to see if it will run hot at idle.
