What's funny about this thread is that either removing the cat (terrible idea) or running a high flow cat, you will gain maybe 2hp, LOL

If you are just looking to replace yours because it's clogged or damaged, Magnaflow sells them fairly cheap. I needed a new one for my EM1, and ended up just sourcing out a perfect condition Integra cat for next to nothing

I'm super happy with the Magnaflow on my B16A2!

EM1 cats cost more than generic cats, because the 02 bung is located in the middle (only measures 1st half of cat). It's kind of an oddball.

I bought mine on Amazon.com: MagnaFlow 22630 Direct Fit Catalytic Converter - 49 state Legal ($194 +FS)

I looked all over the web, and everyone gets about the same price. My local Honda dealer wanted $670 for an OEM cat ($820 List). LoL!

ODB2 is picky, and I was tired of throwing CELs (blew out my OEM cat when I lost a dissy)! Personally, I didn't want to mess around with cutting, bending, and welding the pipes, just to save 50 bucks...

This cat is great! Sounds good, smells good, looks good, integrated heat shield, bolt-on installation, and the price is right.

Did I say, "smells good?" OMG, my B16 smelled dank after the cat blew!!! I drove it that way for a few days (and triggered a CEL every day) waiting for the Magnaflow to arrive. There's NO f**king way I would drive a DD on a test pipe!

BTW, if you get one of these, you'll need a new metal (crush) gasket on the exhaust (b-pipe) side. It was around 4 bucks at the dealer. Regular auto parts stores don't stock them. I reused the tapered (flex) gasket on the a-pipe side (header to cat).

I made the mistake of removing my cat for a test pipe on my old '94 Civic hatch that had a B18C1 swap. If the sound isn't annoying enough, the exhaust fumes will be eventually.

I ended up putting a Magnaflow high-flow cat on it....it actually made the exhaust deeper and better sounding IMO...AND took care of the fumes.

If I remember correctly (it's been a few years haha), I got one of the universal ones off of eBay. The seller/store I bought it from had the dimensions, so I made sure it would fit length/width wise, and piping wise (my exhaust was 2.25" piping).

After that, I took it to one of my friend's shops that has a welder and had them cut the proper amount of piping out of the old test pipe, and welded the new cat in...but I'm sure any exhaust/muffler shop would be willing to take care of it for you for not too much.

I'm trying to remember though.....on EM1s the cat is under the car and NOT on the exhaust manifold itself, right?

If they make a specific one for EM1s, then get that...if not, just make sure a universal one will fit properly.

As far as it being OBD2, you may need to get one of the O2 simulators so that the CEL will stay off.
