Default Bad IAC or?

Hey guys,

I have had my Civic for almost a year and just through a CEL. Had it checked at Autozone and I believe he said it was P5202? Malfunctioning Idle air controller. Everything I have been reading about a Bad IAC doesnt seem to line up with the problems I have been experiencing. After he told me that I cleaned it out some, pulled the 7.5 amp fuse in the box to reset the CEL and all seemed well. Today as I'm driving to school the CEL pops back on and the same symptoms return that I was experiencing before. Almost immediately after the CEL came back. The car still seems to idle perfect when I am stopped or at a light which from what I have read doesn't seem to be right if the IAC is bad. What I am experiencing is happening when I shift or let off the gas. It is like the vavle has to been open passed a certain point for the car to accelerate but its acting almost as if I floor the car and jerking. After that point the car drives fine. However in lower gears it can be hard to stay at a constant speed. At the light before I got to school the car was getting hard to put into gear (notchy). However, when I parked and shifted through gears it seemed fine? I am about 65 miles away from home now at school hoping I can at least drive it home.

Cliffs Notes:

Specs: 1998 Civic Hatch
Stock D16Y7
5 speed Tranny

Problem: Thowing CEL for a bad IAC (I believe he said P5202). Shows no normal symptoms. IE bad idle. Car will not stay at a constant speed. When accelerating car acts as if you floor it at first (jerking) then rides fine. At the light before I got to campus I had a hard time putting car in 1st. Then when parked it shifted through all gears fine.

EDIT: Went through the codes we have and it is "P0505 Idle Control System Malfunction"

I'm sure that the rough driving is playing hell on my tranny. I did some searching but didn't come up with much besides the common problems and I am at school so I don't have a ton of time to continue searching.

Thanks for any help!

Would a bad TPS still throw a code that said that though? The weird thing is that at almost the instant the CEL comes on it starts to ride like that (at least at has twice so far). I am far from being a mechanic so I have no clue...

Measure the TPS input and output voltages, as mentioned.
