Backfiring_how do i make my car stop backfiring?
My car backfires alot, i have a skunk2 mega power exhaust and i have a cat. Car is a 2000 si w/ the b16a2. I recently got my timing fixed which before caused my car to run way rich but now its normal but with a little backfiring. I hear poping noises only when i let off throttle and right when i step on the throttle again while cruising. Could it be my TPS sensor giving to much fuel?? Thanks, car also has Aem fuel rail, camgears, and a intake. Stock injectors w/ stock regulator are used.

u sure it's backfires and not air pops from an aftermarket exhaust, both my apexi N1 and my fireball catbacks pop a lil if u let off the gas very lightly in certain situations...

Re: (Syndacate)
yea, i think it back fires because it sounds like a turbo car backfiring, its really loud and usually like one loud pop lets say if im cruising in 4th and bring the rpm up to 4 or 5, and let off to 3.5 and give it gas, i hear a pop and i have like carbon on the tip of my exhaust. very little though

mine had the same problem and i couldnt find the problem I thought it was the tps sensor so i replaced and didnt solve the problem. Im thinking its two things one it could be one of yur valves is bent which it causing it to pop. Two it could be the timing might be off.
Did u have the same problem before the timing adjustment??
Do u hear the popping sound inside the air intake??

Re: (civic_tuned)
Every car naturally pops when you are shifting. Say you are shifting at 5k RPMs, in the next gear the RPMs will drop to 3k. The pop happens when you gas the car before the engine drops back by itself to 3k. It's because when you let off the gas, the injectors shut off, and then you are gasing it, which means injectors turn back on, the switch over = pop.

Re: (civic_tuned)
before, my timing was so bad that i had to open my throttle body a little to keep idle where i should be because it was running so rich, carbon stained my driveway like 2 ft behind my exhaust. and also my camgears were off by like 1 or 2 teeth from being installed wrong by the previous owner. my timing is good now w/ a new belt and all but my cyl 4 spark plug gets carbon fouled. the other three cyl are good. my throttle body is adjusted to where it should be also so my tps shouldn't be giving extra fuel. now, im just trying to find out why it back fires, sometimes i would feel loss of power then power gained again, im just puzzled

hell man my car is perfectly tuned and everything works the way it should and shoots flames out the pipe when i shift at about 7800, so i would'nt worry about it. it hasnt hut anything on my car so far.

Re: (swap_killer7079)
i was thinking about getting a vafc or vafc 2 t tune my car but dunno if i need it. could it be a faulty o2 sensor being all carboned out from how rich my car was running before i had my timing redone?
