People have done the awd part but with honda its really more like 4wd. Hondas system is an Automatic 4wd where under normal conditions its 2wd untill the front wheels slip then the rear wheels are kicked in. Mainly for traction in snow and rain. Its hard to do because the actual Real time 4wd Civics sold in japan (only in 4 door) were different in the back. The Civics that were Fwd from factory pretty much the back has to be overhalled lot of welding and cutting and you loose your fuel tank. So you have to use a fuel cell. So if you have alot of time and are fluent with a welder and measuring then i would give it a go but if you arent then its easyer to either find a 4wd wagovan. or import a civic RTI and go from there

use the search option here on h-t. if nothing comes up, that would mean to me that noone on h-t has done it before.

We got a Wagovan so what can we do with that stuff to put it on his hatch and make it work with a B20?

Well acutally the people who did the EG hatches use the Wagovan parts Like the rear cross member.. Basically If you want to do this you will have to do these things
1. Remove stock cross member by drilling out the spot welds.
2. You would have to aquire what type of drive train you wanted so
For example the wagovan drivetrane has single viscous coupleing in the front at the transfercase to control the power to the rear wheels Works like a torq converter on an automatic. If the pressure of the front wheels was more than that of the back wheels the the power was pushed to the back wheels.
the newer civics had the the coupling in 2 places so that the drive shaft was not linked to the rear wheels when it wasnt engaged. if you look under a CRV or a Civic RTI when its driving in normal conditions you will see the drive shaft does not move because the rear diff has viscus coupling also.
So you would have to choose which drivetrane you wanted. there are people who replace the viscus coupling up front with a solid peice that way its full time awd and use the wagovan rear diff because its connected all the time aswell. HOWEVER Both CRV and WAgovan rear ends arent strong so you would have to go to An EVO or GSX rear diff Ive seen people use 240 sx rear ends also. This system is ment for traction in snow and rain and not ment to be like an EVO.
3. you will need to have the wagovan rear trailing arms shortend becuase they are to long for a car.
4 you would need to relocate the fuel lines because they come to close to where the drive shaft needs to be.
5 The fuel tank IF you wanted to keep the Under carrage fuel tank you would need to find Either an Audi 80 or a 1980s Mercedes E class fuel tank because both of those fuel tanks have the arch in the middle however are thin enough to where they wont drag on the ground like the Civic 4wd tank would.
6. you would need to set up a frame jig so you can mount your rear crossmember on your clean slate under the car. that way one side doesnt stick out more than the other.
7. The transmission you would need to find is one from a CRV because it first of all is the only B series transmission to have a transfer case in it and 2 The CRV Trans is Cable shift instead of Mechanical Linkage.
8. you will need to fabricate driveshaft/ propeller shaft ( they call it) hangers on your existing civic center hump.
9. You will need to rune new exhaust that will clear the drive shaft and also clear the rear cross member and axles. Instead of it going over the rear lower control arm it will come out below the cross member on the passenger side of the car right next to where the lower control arm bushing would be.
Depending on Brakes you would have to check out the thread i posted because some one managed to put rear disc brakes on the wagovan rear trailing arms im not sure what is involved in that unless you wanted to just leave it drum.
10. The drive shaft is something you would need to have shortened if you use a CRV shaft which would make better use of the b20's torque.
This is all i can think of right now. I remind you this drivtraine hooke directly up will break under loads thats why the Automatic 4wd is better because the power isnt going thru the rear end its just helping traction. If you had alot of extra money and knew of junkyards that had newer cars you could go and find your self an SH-AWD system from an RDX or an RL then do a K20 swap. that would be actual AWD and not 4wd because it was desinged to be AWD.
