Default B18B1 Bad Gas Milage

well I did search, found a lot of useless threads and found 0 answers.

I just recently swapped a B18B1 in my 92 hatch.

I though this engine was in mint shape, but it obviously was a POS.
the Head was rebuilt with OEM parts, but the bottom was untouched. and it burns a lot of oil. anyways...

I'm getting about 300KM per tank, that's 186Miles per tank.

my hatch is a DX, so it does have the bigger tank that has 40 Liters.

this is stupid, I'm getting garbage garbage mileage.

when i got my car out of the shop. I drove my car pretty hard and I managed to get 450KM out of it or 280miles.

but that was my first tank. since then Ive filed it up 6 times, and I always get around 300. I drove like a bitch and got 330 this pass tank.

everything is stock cept for a EBay short ram intake. stock exhaust.
please help me out, this is insane with the price of gas lately.

** Cliff notes
getting 180miles per tank on my EH2 B18B1

Are you throwing any CELs? Maybe it's time for an overhaul on the O2 and cat. Maybe you need a tune-up. Maybe your timing is off.

It could be a number of things.

engine should be tuned up
engine was installed at a reputable shop (since it wouldn't start when I put it in)
(8 bent valves)

they replaced 8 of the valves, 3 angles valve job, head gasket, water pump. and timing belt.

I'm throwing no cels

I do want to get a new exhaust system to get it flowing a bit nicer, but I kinda out of money and don't want to waist it on anything that I don't REALY need right now.

I jsut though it was weird that I got 450KM on my first tank when I first got the car. and then **** mileage after that

I only get 300 miles per tank on a BONE STOCK D15B7. Oh yes, my O2 and cat are gone to ****.

Check those things.

damn good start. also try little things like new spark plugs. even though you said it should have been tuned up, plugs are still only a few dollars each

I'll try that too

but I got the wires off my buddy's 99 teg, and his wires were already changed, so I'm assuming they're pretty new.

using the gas gauge as the method of checking fuel mileage is inacurate. When you next fill the car reset the trip meter. Drive it till at least 3/4 of the tank is empty. fill it back up and record gallons (liters) and devide the miles by the gallons = MPG. the fuel gauge may be degrading and becoming less and less accurate. Use the trip meter and it should be much more accurate.

well i've heard a full gas tank gets better gas mileage than a somewhat empty tanks, IE: 1/4 - to dead empty, any truth too that

^I don't know about that, but my fuel gauge moves much faster after passing the half way mark. While driving normally on a full tank I can get around 100 mles before the needle starts moving at all.

No truth to that at all. The opposite is true. The less fuel voulm in the car the lower the weight. So in theory it should get slightly better fuel economy. But it may not be measureable.

Check your ignition timing and TPS for proper settings. Does it have the same amount of power. What is your cold compression? it should be at least 120-180 PSI with less than 5-10% variation cylinder to cylinder.
