Default B16A reliable?

Well I just dropped a valve at 7500 RPM on my D16Y8 on the dyno. It ruined everything. Im most likely getting a B16A with Type R cams, Type R oil and water pump, ITR IM and TB, and an LSD tranny. I know several people with B16's and I know they're nice motors...especially in VTEC but how reliable are they? Are they prone to throwing rods, spinning bearings, dropping valves damn it lol, etc? Thanks for the info.

I understand. I was just double checking to see if they're prone to throwing rods or spinning bearings or anything like that. If for some reason, Im not able to get that motor...where would be best place to buy a complete swap from?

I got a Second Gen B16 with LSD from HMotors and my car is crazy fast for being stock. I ran a 14.8 with bad mounts, bad tires, and bad stock suspension. if you ask me i think that is pretty good. this summer its time for BOOST BABY!

Damn, what car was it in? Like I said, the motor Im most likely getting comes with an LSD as well. Either way, I'll try and get one with an LSD.

And the reason Im going with a b16 is because it's the cheapest route other than another single slammer and I really want to try something new. Plus, I had a y8 and they're known for spinning bearings a lot. Heard of a lot of a6's and ZC's doing it as well. I've never really heard of it happening much on a b16. I deff don't have the money to buy an LS motor and boost it and I want something that's a little faster than an LS to ride around in until I get the money to start building it up.

Everyone and their mom has a b16 and theyre cheap as dirt.

But theres no hiding it, a dohc vtec screams with top end charge.

The jdm SiR-II b16 has an optional LSD. Its a great swap for the money IMO

alright, thanks man. Im most likely getting the b16 that already has an LSD, Type R cams, Type R intake manifold and throttle body, and all that. It has a new timing belt and clutch as well. The guy got it from Osaka. Im going by his work tomorrow to look it over thouroughly. What kind of things should I be looking for on it? What's the best way to tell if it was taken care of or not? Thanks

i swapped my 2nd gen b16 in my sedan 6 years ago and haven't had any real problems out of it at all. the only problem i had was i had to extend the harness on my eg for my tps because the b16 is wider and the wires came up crimped and i solder them ( should have been done in the first place) and haven't had out of those since. Then last summer i supercharged it and broke both axles at about 1mph leaving at stop sign not even giving it hell (damn oreilys axles) swapped to napa oem axles and no probs. don't hate the b16

talking about freaks , i had mine in my old vx and it ran 14.2@98 w/ itr 4-1 , aebs IM , light flywheel and a tune performed by myself . thtas it . surprised the **** out of me . couple of months later SCC dyno'd their eg and it hit like 150whp and 180-190 on spray and ran like a 14.4 i believe . it made me REALLY happy . i know altitude and track surfaces vary but still they had like 50 more whp on spray . anwyays i forgot to set the rev limiter back down one day and was racing a guy and revved it to about 9500 in second . needless to say dropped a valve and completley phucked the motor up . number 3 piston left the party w/o even A GOODBYE

i know b16a2 are reliable, dunno about the 1 gen b16. i know the 2 gen tends to smoke during hard acceleration. bad rings or valve seals are usally the enemy
