B16A CEL code 20 (ELD) + speedometer not working
alright so i guess i'll start at the beginning. about a month ago i hit something in the road, and it took out my rear o2 sensor,
but the car still ran and drove great. CEL was throwing code 65: (Rear oxygen sensor circuit malfunction).
fast forward to about a week ago, when i changed my oil my dad was looking at the o2 sensor to see how bad it was,
and while he was messing with it, it completely broke in half: http://i44.tinypic.com/2rm0fis.jpg .after changing
the oil i moved it out of the garage and parked it in the street. next time i tried to drive it, it would kinda bog down; and when
moving/shifting into neutral and pushing the clutch in, the rpms would fall and the car would shut off. after it was warmed
up though the engine ran fine, didnt stall at all. i immediately turned around and went back home, it was then showing 3 codes:
-20 (Electronic load detector - possible open or grounded circuit in ECU wiring),
-41 (Heated oxygen sensor - heater circuit),
-in addition the the other code it had previously.
so today we replaced the o2 sensor with a new one, and i drove it down the street a few times to see how it ran. it didn't
bog down or stall this time, but now my speedometer is not working. checked the CEL and it is throwing the same three codes.
if you have any input or help please post. thank you in advanced

Re: B16A CEL code 20 (ELD) + speedometer not working
i have 96 DX civic with the same scenario (hit a curb same 3 codes thrown & speedo issue) except alternator isnt charging and when replacing the 15 fuse still blows.
Read the TSB but it applies to a model where the C115 connector is actually being used, on mine it is not used, just blocked off. Help!

i do see the whole wire harness including the specific C115 connector harness as in theTSB but it has a factory block off plug and not connected to any other wire harness.
I had unplugged the speed sensor and the fuse does not blow when i turn the key but the engine wont turn over now, just relay clicks. (fuse immediately use to blow out but could still fire up motor)
Speed sensor gone bad? If so, is there a bypass to the connector to fire it up?

Listen to this man! He is a lifesaver and a natural tylenol for a headache! I have the same problem and it was driving me batty. Fuse 15 WILL keep popping.
Good luck.

Regarding your current no-start issue, start by checking for other blown fuses, clean the battery posts/connectors, and charge the battery. Also, did you only disconnect the VSS?

Simple! Do your headlights/taillights flicker or pulse, and does your rpm's bounce around a bit? Combined with a fuse 15 that keeps blowing, it's nearly certain it's this damn harness issue.

There is not another half to the c115. The harness hasnt been manipulated, all factory. no other blown fuses, and no light flicker nor rpm bounce. I had only disconnected the VSS. i'll have to take a pic of the harness.

Is your Civic stock? Has the engine or wire harnesses been replaced or modified?

not trying to jack the thread, but im glad i came across this. i have the same problem with a b16a in a 95 eg si. speedo done work but the vss is snug in its connector.
i checked all the fuses in the box, nothing was blown. there were some open slots tho, maybe 15 is just missing all together i'de have to check it out.

yea like i said its my ex's car so i dont always see it. when i looked last nite i didnt think to see which slot numbers were empty. also, that diagram that was posted was for a D series wire harness, could the same thing happen in an eg si with the b16a swap? im not sure which harness is being used but it seems plausible.
either way im gonna check it out tonite and hopefully get it goin.

Is is possible for the VSS to short out the 15 fuse and keep the alternator from charging? this is a pic of c115 connector...

Re: B16A CEL code 20 (ELD) + speedometer not working
That just may be a variant type of C115 connector. Are there a total of 14 wires attached to the rear of the connector - 7 Blk/Yel and 7 Grn/Blk wires? If so, look for damage to any of those wires and repair as shown in the TSB.

Re: B16A CEL code 20 (ELD) + speedometer not working
Sorry for bringing this back from the dead. I have a 96 civic ex with a GSR swap. I started having this problem on Monday. Found this thread yesterday and checked. Sure enough fuse 15 was blown. I replaced it. A lil later in the day it blew again after about 15 miles of drivin. As soon as I was leaving my neighborhood it blows again. I continue to drive 10 miles to my friends house to park it. Today it just blew again as I was leaving his drive way. I have yet to get under the car and check the c115. But it is not connected to anything from looking at it from up top. It has the factory block off plug in it. Hell me out please guys. Thanks in advance.

i had this same issue in my 97 civic ex it is in fact the wires into the c115 connector rubbing metal under your intake manifold i found some links on this site awhile back and it fixed my issues i had the flickering lights and my alternator wouldnt charge the batt. it was a very simple fix all you do is replace that 7.5a fuse under your dash then look under the intake manifold for the c115 connector there is more than likely some exposed wire/wires rubbing eachother or the intake manifold bracket. it was a very simple and cheap fix only the cost of a new fuse, currogated tubing from my local autozone and some electrical tape.been over two months with no problems or continually blowing fuse #15.

Re: B16A CEL code 20 (ELD) + speedometer not working
well i have a 2000 si and my car has all sorts of electrical issues... i hope its this fuse 15 thing or a wire on my C115 connector is messed up so i can finally fix it... my headlights/dash lights and radio flicker or power off/on while i brake...if the car is on but not in motion it acts fine... only does this problem while driving and braking... car has a CEL P0133 which i got checked by autozone and it seems like its a bad o2... car has a dc header so im sure thats part of the problem... its 2am now but ill check this out tomorrow morning... ive been searching the internet for a solution....

Re: B16A CEL code 20 (ELD) + speedometer not working
Sorry to bring back from dead again. But, I figured out along time ago what was happening with my car. It was the o2 sensor rubbing the underbody of the car shorting out my system. Hope if anyone else ever searches and finds this thread this info helps them out.
