Like the title says while I am driving it wont let me go past 3500, and whenever I press the gas in neutral, or driving, my car bogs right away and then picks up. It seems like when I press the gas it has to build something up to get it to rev. I dont know it just sounds like its bogging or about to lose it, then it picks up but wont go past 3500.


I heard my car may be in limp mode, but there is no way I can check because I dont have the ecu jumper (paper clip troubleshoot), and neither of my eus have a flasher to indicate the code. If anyone had a similar problem, or can explain how I can figure this out I would appreciate it alot!!!! Thanks!!!

I did. Start the car and pull a plug wire one at a time and make sure all cylinders are firing. I had this happen twice once a bad wire then another time i had a bad injector

More info.....Its an obd1 2nd gen b16, using a j-k-tuning ecu. Just exhaust and intake.

I havent driven the car for around 8 months, and before everything was perfectly alright. But the ecu is not a problem, I have 2 and both have the same result. This seriously just started out of nowhere.

But I pulled the plugs, and their all firing. I heard clicky noises when I pulled out the sprkplug wire.

like both of these guys are saying. ive had both problems, had a bad injector that made it do that once and also had the same problem with my ecu. it went in safe mode, but mine was right b4 it went into v-tech.
check th plugwires first and if that doesnt work try getting an ecu from a friend and plugging that up. make sure its the same obd #.

do you have a problem with your speedo working? if it doesnt work it will put it in safe mode but shouldnt be in safe mode that low in the rpm's.

speedo works, I reset the ecu with the fuse under the hood, hazard and ecu. Same thing. I even tried the stock PR3 obd1 ecu, and the j-k one. No different still 3500.....

What do you mean check the plug wires?? I lifted the spark plug wires and its firing.

Try unplugging the O2 sensor. If this causes the symptoms to disappear, replace the sensor (leaving it unplugged will cause the engine to lose efficiency).

Actually thats a good idea. If that all that fails should I just buy a new dizzy??

Also where are all the sensors located on a b16?? Is there a diagram anywhere??

Anyone got a better clue, or a diagram where I can see the sensors??

I know the 02 are by the header, I am talking about tps and other sensors as well to break it down closer to the problem.

When these cars sit that long without getting driven the Ignition Coil tends to start acting up until it finally goes out. That is what it sounds like to me. If your car is pre 1995 I would go ahead and purchase one. If it fixes the problem great if not well it would have gone out eventually so you just did preventive maintenance. I have had 2 ignition coils go out before on different motors just to give you an idea of how common it is.

hrmmmm, I appreciate the response. Im gonna borrow a friends dizzy to see if thats it......man I swear this car is nothing but trouble lol.

sounds like tps sensor to me
