Default axle nut threading?

is the dreaded axle nut reverse threaded? or is it the normal counterclockwise to loosen it?

Same as any bolt.

Clock wise to tighten, counter clock wise to loosen.

Impact gun wouldnt hurt either, but I'm usually too lazy to get mine out so I just use the breaker bar method....

I just dominated that nut right now! i got that nut off in 20 seconds using a 18 in breaker bar with a 4 foot pipe extension. it was soooooo easy. didnt even use PB or wd-40. it suprised me cause everyone makes such a big deal about it. anyway, yeah!!!!

what do you all use to make that dip in the new axle nut? when i tried getting the dip back up to take off the nut, i used a flat head screw driver and it went tore thru the nut.

ur doing right, just rip it up, tore it apart, out damn dip... they're made to do just that - all remans/new axles come with new nuts. Honda says not to but if you reuse it, just make sure the new dip is in a different place.

but what tool do you use to stake the nut down? not taking out the dip but making one on a new nut. what tools? screwdrivers go thru the metal.

I use a big crappy screwdriver. you don't have to beat it flat into the notch, just put that little dip back in it so that the nut won't back off.
