Auto transmission shifting irregular
So I just got my 99 civic on the road again after sitting for a few months.
My transmission is acting up
The problems are
Shifting into a lower gear randomly when cruising.
And hard shifts.
No flares are slips.
Original 175k old tranny fluid. Will changing it help?
Will the tps cause these?

175k with original fluid huh..
the fluid is supposed to be changed every 40-50k..
Im not too familiar with hondas slushbox's, but normal autos usually take a **** after 5k miles of having fluid changed on an older trans..
Why? because theres so much dirt in the system, its attached to the clutch plates cause friction.. The new fluid will clean off the dirt thus leaving old worn clutch plates to function normally and they wear out after a few thousand miles..
But like I said, changing fluid might fix the issue, but might also create a new one..
Look up changing fluid from "eric the oil guy" on you tube. that guys usually right on point.

Drain and refill. 3qts
dive about 30 milles and see if it improves.
if it does do another drain and refill
then another.
Everyone says honda ATF but I run Valvoline import atf. seens decent

Re: Auto transmission shifting irregular
Im afraid its too late.
If you change it now, chances are that it will kill the tranny.
Why did u wait so long, its so easy to change....

Re: Auto transmission shifting irregular
I was going to attempt the drain and refill 4 time method.
But I think I reached a decision to let go of the car.
It was my first car and wanted to keep it but I have a 09 civic si and a Mazda protege for dd

A drain and refill like Chriser0 wouldn't cost much. Another cheap alternative is a conditioner which may make it better or worse (if that is possible). http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...cts_10057628-p
I have never used conditioners and I can't say if it will help or not. Just an option.
