This is a pretty straight forward general tech question that applies to all vehicles so sorry for my noobness with ac systems.

I just recently replaced a couple o-rings on my ac lines,installed everything back up,used a hand pump to apply some vacuum to the system and installed freon to 38lbs.

Now the ac blows cold and the compressor acts perfectly fine,but when you start to raise the rpms quickly (for example taking off from a stop) the compressor cycles off and then back on. It does this while driving as well if I start to accelerate.This makes it very hard to have a smooth drive seeing how the ac compressor keeps putting load on the engine whenever I go to speed up.

I do not have a manifold with hoses, I only have a low pressure gauge and hose. So there is no telling what the high pressure side is putting out as far as pressure.



But from the sounds of it I either have to much freon or not enough. Or to much pressure on the high side.


If anyone has any idea of a way to resolve this without purchasing a manifold and gauges please chime in. Thanks in advance.

mine did that because my belts were slipping you may try to see if you can tighten your tensioning belt. But i woulnt be suprised if it did it automatically to help with acceleration. Im thinking the latter. The belt problem may have been coincidental

tRying to remember ..... I bought a new del sol vtec b16 in 96 and I think it did the same thing, but the honda tech told me under hard acceleration it is meant to turn off the compressor to give you back the horsepower.

38lbs of charged freon is way too much. Civics take 1.2lbs (19oz.)

my eg hatch with an LS motor and ac does the same exact thing and so does my gf's eg with stock motor does it too and also my friends LS eg hatch.. once youre cruising it gets super cold though.. maybe they were meant to be like this? idk it used to bug me at first but now its ok, once it gets cold it stays cold

Mine will shut off even if I rev the motor to just 1500rpm. Say im taking off from a light and the ac is on,the second I give it some gas it cycles off.
