Default 99 D16Y8, (OBD2B engine in OBD2A car) question!!!!!!!!!

hey guys i just recently swapped a 99 d16y8 (obd2b)into my 98 civic lx(d16y7 auto tranny) i had to wire the knock sensor, vtec sol. and pressure switch, had to change some wires on the ckf sensor, im running a 98 p2p ecu (odb2a)seems to run fine, but my engine has that air injection thing that i read started in 99.

so i was wondering if using the obd2a ecu on the obd2b engine is affecting any performance like air/fuel ratios or whatever.. i mean are the obd2a and b ecu's the same as in fuel maps?.. also is the air injection thing not working because of my obd2a ecu?..

i have pretty much the same setup, except running on a Y7 bottom end. i havn't noticed a problem running the obd2a ecu, which ive been doing for about 3 months, but i also don't have the air injection hooked up. i do have a slight hesitation if i give it alot of throttle right after i start it up, i don't know if that has anything to do with it though. if it's not giving you any problems i wouldn't worry too much about it.

yea i figure the 98 d16y8 and the 99 d16y8 are the same engine, but was concerned about the fuel maps being different but i figured its the same engine why would the fuel maps be different from 98-99...

i just dont wanna miss out on like 5hp by using a obd2a ecu lol.. and the air injection info is hard to come by on the net, the valve has 2 ports one to the breather and one to the top of the head.. and i do see any wires in it, so i figure it might be pressure activated if thats the case then the ecu doesnt handle it i assume..

hope someone can tell me about this air injection think,
thanx for the reply

did you use a 99 engine harness and if you did, what ecu you use? Is 98 and 99 ecu have different plugs.

the air injection is actually coolant temp activated. there is a switch that looks like a t-fitting on the thermostat housing that regulates it. all you need is to run some vac line from your intake tube, to the t, then out to the port on top of the intake manifold right where it meets the head. it should be completely independant of your ecu and just have to be routed to work.

he said he's running an 98 ecu (obd2a) and that he had to wire the knock and vtec, so i'd assume he just reused his 98 lx harness. if that last sentance was supposed to be a question, then yes, they do have different plugs.

yes i stuck with my stock non-vtec harness on the 98 with the 99 engine..

hey ubermonkey u seem to know about the air injection thing.. so my air injection its the hose comming from the head to that t-fitting then the fitting on the side goes to the breather (short ram intake) am i hosed up correctly?.. there are only 2 fittings on the t-piece.. so then the hose on the head is a vac?

so then the ecu doesnt have anything to do with it, thats good news.. still wondering if my 99 d16y8 would perform the same if it was running on the 99 ecu instead
i doubt the fuel maps are different

it goes from the nipple on the intake mani (its on the mani right where it meets the head, right inbetween injectors 2 and 3), to the t-fitting on the thermostat housing (the top nipple i believe is the proper one), out the side nipple to the port on the intake tube right before the throttle body. none of this should be hooked up to the breather, so i'm not sure what hose you're talking about on the head.

what i mean by breather, is the hole from the valve cover that usually would go to the intake tube...

well yes, if you have a 98 intake tube there will be only two holes, one for the breather tube coming from the valve cover, and one for the intake air temp sensor. you can take out the breather tube and use that hole for the air injection line, and then just get a small breather filter from the parts store to put on the valve cover.

if you have a 99+ intake tube, there should be three holes, the two i just mentioned, and a third for this air injection line. if you have this tube then you should be all set.
